At the heart of the celebration of the 4th of July is resistance.

Resistance to tyranny. Resistance to injustice.
That’s how this country began, and it’s how real change has always been made.

Over the years, I’ve had the chance to speak at the White House, be a part of policy meetings, and even be a part of a private briefing with the former Vice President of US. As a child of immigrants, moments like those remind me of what’s possible.

But lately, it’s been hard to feel like there’s much to celebrate. I’m in the middle of residency, and seeing the disconnect between the polices being passed by Congress and the reality of patients that I have the privilege of seeing can be jarring.

And yet every single day, I also see people resist. Resist a system that was never built to protect them. Resist by showing up, speaking up, and simply surviving.

Today, I don’t just celebrate independence. I celebrate those who are still fighting to be free. Because the most patriotic thing we can do is demand that our country continues to live up to its promise for all of us.

Happy 4th. Let’s keep going. 🇺🇸✊🏾

If this bill had existed when I was coming up, I wouldn’t have been able to afford Yale because of the student loan caps. I wouldn’t have been able to go to medical school for the same reason.

And when I was in between jobs, I would’ve lost health insurance because I wasn’t working the 80 hours a month.

I talk about policy because it’s personal. And this bill threatens the future of millions just like me, who if given a chance can succeed.

In a 51‑50 vote, Republicans passed the “One Big Beautiful Bill” today. Vice President J.D. Vance cast the tie‑breaking vote. The package includes the largest cuts to Medicaid in U.S. history (nearly 1 billion), slashes SNAP, and adds $3.3 trillion to the deficit. It now heads back to the House.

 Yesterday, on my 30th birthday, I officially accepted my Peabody Award in the Interactive and Immersive category. The Peabodys are arguably the Pulitzer Prize of broadcast and digital media, honoring stories that challenge systems, shift culture, and center the voices too often left out. It’s hard to describe just what it meant to receive one of the highest honors in storytelling.

Huge thanks to for custom-making this stunning suit in a short time frame and to for fitting me in for a haircut the day of. But more than the fit, standing on that stage and being recognized for work that pushes boundaries and tells the stories that matter in medicine meant everything. To be honored alongside names I’ve looked up to for years and work that is truly changing narratives was surreal. And getting told I was best dressed and had the most powerful speech by some of them? Just the cherry on top. 😌Lastly thank YOU for being a part of this community and learning/ unlearning alongside with me! None of this would be possible without your willingness to share, learn and myth bust!

It’s my 30th birthday today! 🙏🏾 And let me tell you… it’s giving peace, power, and purpose.

This year I celebrated my birthday week in Tulum with some of my closest friends in the world. I’m truly grateful for the people, the peace, and the moments that have shaped me the last few decades. And most importantly, for this community that continues to uplift, inspire, and challenge me to be and do more.

June 1 isn’t just my birthday. It’s also the halfway point of the year. A reminder to pause, reflect, and realign. To celebrate what’s been, release what’s not needed anymore, and walk boldly into what’s next.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Here’s to growth, gratitude, and grounding in joy.

8-year-old me (and honestly current me, too) are too excited haha.

Huge thank you to for inviting me to the Time100 Health Gala. I’ve always wondered what it would look like if health care workers were celebrated the same way we honor artists, athletes, and changemakers. Not just for the scrubs we wear, but for the stories we carry and the lives we fight to protect.

Being in a room full of people reshaping the future of health care, researchers, advocates, innovators, reminded me that healing doesn’t just happen in hospitals. It happens in policy, in classrooms, in communities, and in moments like this that bring all of us together.

Grateful to be part of a movement that sees us, uplifts us, and believes in a healthier, more just and equitable future.
