Recitatif by Toni Morrison

Morrison’s only short story examines and experiments with characterisations of race in such a compelling and genius way.

In Recitatif we follow two girls: one black, one white as they navigate life and grow up to become women. The experiment is to not tell you which woman is black or which woman is white and in doing so Morrison weaves a masterful short story that tells you as much about the reader as it does the story itself.

Also the introduction by Zadie Smith is essential reading - just read it after the story!

The Night Guest by Hildur Knútsdóttir (translated by Mary Robinette Kowal)

Fast paced, unsettling but ultimately lacking something towards the end. Also sort of delves into the existential dread of being a woman living under the patriarchy. Not recommended for cat lovers.

This has kinda been the mood for a while, between work and filming 1 YouTube vid a month (such an amateur but it’s all I can manage at the moment 😂) I’ve stopped posting on here.

I feel like social media is such a chore sometimes and as I get older I just can’t be bothered to engage with it - perhaps it doesn’t help that it’s also part of the jobs that I’ve had since 2021 and it feels like these apps are kinda dying or on their last legs as they essentially become marketplaces (influencers flogging the same trash on every other video you scroll past) rather than what they originally were. Or maybe I’m just a cynic and the harshness of winter has settled in my bones.

But anyhoo this is just me checking in to say hi and that maybe I’ll start posting again if I can resurrect my enthusiasm.

In other news I’m really f*cking devastated by the passing of David Lynch. He was an icon, a true creative and such an inspiration.

My loan of the new Sally Rooney arrived at the Library today! Learnt my lesson of buying her last book and kinda hating it…maybe the hype on Intermezzo is true but I’m not willing to risk it this time 😂

Use your library folks!!!!

Also it matches my bag 🥰

Finally visited the the other weekend and as a lover of Brutalist architecture it made my heart sing 😂💓

There was a wedding reception taking place so I couldn’t go inside the indoor garden but they were blasting some great disco music 🎶

I would love to live in one of the apartments one day but alas I am but a mere peasant (presently but might be tempted to sell feet pics to be able to live in such an iconic place 😂)

I think I may have just started reading the best end of summer book. 🏔️🏨🥀

Strega by Johanne Lykke Holm (translated by Saskia Vogel) takes place on the cusp of autumn aka the twilight days of summer. It follows a group of young maids working a season at an alpine hotel.

I’m only 40 pages in but the gothic atmosphere is very much drawing me in and I feel like this is going to be a book I devour rather quickly which hardly ever happens as I’m the slowest of readers.

Finally got my hands on a secondhand copy of The Vampire Lestat that isn’t ugly 😂

Can’t wait to read this as I read Interview with the Vampire when I was a teenager and never continued the series - until the AMC show rekindled my obsession (bring on season 2!!)

Have you read any of The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice?

So I’ve finally started to journal in my gorgeous diary and I must say I think I could stick to it this year (famous last words). 📖✨🌱💖

In one entry I wrote about going to see dune and no one will ever get to see my really terrible doodle of a sand worm - unless it’s a future archaeologist (human or alien) long after I’ve shuffled off this mortal coil and they find it in the wreckage of a post apocalypse earth…

I made a YouTube video (link in bio) about my new stationary the other week and the fact that I always buy a diary and never stay with it throughout the year - too much of a commitment 😂 - so this little post will stand as another motivating price of evidence to make me stick with it!

Of course, it’s early days but its quite fun to just write what ever the hell you want (without pressuring yourself to make it perfect or meaningful) the diary is beyond cute and goes so well with my ridiculously unnecessary yet necessary lilac roe deer from

Call me insane, but I have bought some new stationery, namely a diary to record my everyday life. The crazy part is that I am the kind of person who almost a...
