Kidapawan's Young Artist with Autism Triumphs at MB Sketchfest, Celebrated by Governor Mendoza and Vice Governor Taray
KIDAPAWAN CITY, SOCCSKSARGEN – A heartwarming story of talent and determination has emerged from the Manila Bulletin's Sketchfest, as 11-year-old Nicko Rones Nacario, a boy with mild autism, claimed the top prize in the Kiddie Category. His winning artwork, a vibrant family portrait, not only impressed the judges but also caught the attention of local officials, including Cotabato Governor Lala Mendoza and Vice Governor Ella Taray.
Nicko, a Grade 6 pupil from Amas Central Elementary School, bested a large field of young artists at the Davao leg of the competition. His piece, which depicts him and his parents in their home, resonated with this year's theme, "How Life is Better," by showcasing the importance of family. According to his mother, Nestle, Nicko's passion for drawing is a constant in his life, and she expressed immense pride in his achievement.
Following his win, Nicko received a special recognition from both the provincial governor and vice governor. He was personally interviewed by Vice Governor Ella Taray, who congratulated him on his achievement. The news of his success also reached Governor Lala Mendoza, who lauded the young artist for his talent and for bringing pride to the province of Cotabato.
