Would we call it normal if the roles were reversed?
In Uganda, some tourists are carried on stretchers during gorilla trekking experiences. The scene immediately brought colonial-era imagery to my mind — Europeans travelling through Africa while African people carried them.
Different circumstances, yes. But the visual resemblance is difficult to ignore.
My question isn’t simply, “Is this right or wrong?”
My question is: What does this image represent to Africans whose history includes generations of forced labour, colonial exploitation and unequal power?
Maybe tourism needs more than beautiful destinations. Maybe it also needs historical awareness.
