The 1969 Camaro COPO 9561 was one of the better deals of the era. $489.25 certainly wasn't cheap in 1969 but in comparison to other extra cost engines it wasn't terribly expensive either. An example is to put the 426 HEMI in your new 1969 Road Runner would cost you $813 and it had the same 425 advertised horsepower rating. The BOSS 429 Mustang is another example with a cost of $1,208 to unlock the 375 advertised horsepower engine in your 1969 Mustang. Heck, it was cheaper than a 69 SS with the L78 396. The difference is that not just anyone knew about or could order the 427 in their new 1969 Camaro and using the Central Office Production Order allowed dealers to circumvent GMs 400 cubic inch rule in anything besides full size and Corvettes.
COPO 9561 consisted of the iron L72 425 horsepower 427. ZL2 Super Scoop (cowl induction) hood. Heavy duty cooling. Power disc brakes. 4.10 posi rear.
