I work as a marketing assistant at a real estate firm in Dallas. A year ago, Linda became my boss. It started subtly: "Can you drop this off at my tailor on your lunch break?" or "Book my daughter's dental appointment—you're good with online stuff!" I tried to be nice and thought it was just occasional.
But then came the late-night emails, the 11 p.m. texts asking for proposals by sunrise. The guilt-tripping if I even thought about boundaries.
Last Friday, I finally told her. "Linda," I said, calm as I could be, "I'm your assistant, not your personal concierge. This is TOO much."
She didn't even blink. Just smirked. "Happy boss, happy workers. You don't want me to get angry and fire you, do you?"
Then she dropped the bombshell: "Babysit my girls tonight so I can go on a date. I've been so upset after my divorce. I need to start a new relationship."
That was the LAST STRAW. But despite everything, I agreed.
WHY? Because I had a plan to teach her a LESSON she'd never forget.
So, I showed up at her townhouse at 6 p.m. "to watch the girls." But there was one LITTLE DETAIL ⬇️
