For many marathoners, the hardest part of training isn’t the long runs, the blisters, or the early alarms. It’s being told to stop.

Few know that feeling more than Morenna “Momo” Burn. A triathlete, trail runner and now community ambassador for the , her journey has been defined not just by finish lines but by the setbacks in between.

From a devastating back injury to postpartum recovery, a stress fracture and most recently a ruptured ankle ligament, Momo has had to learn the hardest lesson of all: how to rebuild when running is taken away.

“It was said to me, ‘There are always other races,’ and ‘There’s always next year,’ but at the time this didn’t do anything to help.”

Through each pause, Momo found new ways to stay connected: volunteering at races, cheering others on, and showing up for the community even when she couldn’t be on the start line herself.

Now, as an ambassador, she’s determined to reframe what progress means — not just in PBs, but in patience, perspective and
persistence.

Melbourne’s Jase Vaux just completed a marathon around Albert Park while living with cerebral palsy.

After months of preparation with his good friend and trainer Connor Sahely, Jase set out over the weekend to take on the 42.2km challenge. Nearly 11 hours, multiple rest breaks, and endless determination later, he crossed the finish line.

In the process, he has raised over $5,500 for Scope Australia to support people with disabilities.

Wayne Larden’s history with the Sydney Marathon goes all the way back to 1993. When the city was awarded the 2000 Olympics, he carried out an operational assessment for the marathon.

Fast forward to 2005, his company Pont3 stepped in as operator of the marathon.

“It was a lot smaller back then, I can tell you. We had about 1,300 in the marathon, and there was a half marathon and a 10K. I added the Family Run in the first year so we had an event that was accessible to the entire community.’’ - Wayne Larden on taking over the marathon from 2005
