Ahmed al Ahmed, a 43-year-old father and fruit shop owner, risked his life by tackling one of the gunmen and seizing the gun during a terrorist attack in Sydney, prompting a wave of donations from members of the public to support him and his family.

Ahmed remains in hospital, where he has undergone surgery for bullet wounds to his arm and hand.

In Syria, where Ahmed was born and raised, his uncle told BBC News that the family felt immense pride.

Hunting during the December statewide antlerless season is a different experience than the nine-day gun deer season in November.

What makes this season unique?

It’s quieter, slower and more relaxed with less hunting pressure in the woods. Deer habits are changing as the rut slows and winter routines take over. It also provides another chance to keep working on hunting skills and get outside with friends and family.

Participating in the December hunt helps manage the deer herd which also helps protect crops and wildlife habitat. Plus, harvesting venison puts great meals on the table for your family or those is need through the DNR's Deer Donation Program: https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/hunt/donation
