At our roundtable discussion in Delhi on Digital Tax & Finance Transformation in India’s Manufacturing & Service Sector, powered by Thomson Reuters, Sanjay Gulati, Group Head – Corporate Tax and Indirect Taxation at GMR Group, shared his insights on India’s GST journey.

He emphasized that GST has been one of the finest initiatives of the Government of India, embodying the vision of “one nation, one tax.” By enabling digital compliance across states, it has simplified operations and removed obstacles for businesses, particularly for diversified organizations like GMR with interests spanning aviation, power, and infrastructure.

He also acknowledged the scale and complexity of rolling out GST across varied industries—from aviation to hospitality—and highlighted that while the framework is robust and seamless, the onus lies on businesses to prepare adequately, remain compliant, and align their operations with the true intent of GST.

He emphasized that while organizations today have access to vast amounts of information from multiple ERPs, the true value lies in how robust, seamless, and responsive this data is when addressing unexpected government queries. According to him, data has become the backbone of both tax compliance and ERP effectiveness.

Amardeep also noted that to manage the complexities of multiple jurisdictions and tax departments, businesses must ensure their ERP systems are well-supported and agile enough to deliver accurate, real-time insights.

The ILC Confluence in Bishangarh was an experience that brought leaders together through tradition, conversation, and connection.​

Day 2 unfolded as a journey through roots, history, and shared leadership. It began with a farmer’s breakfast in the village and a fort walkthrough that revealed centuries-old stories. Lunch was shared simply, followed by sessions alive with leadership and strategy. Conversations flowed into high tea by the pool, and the evening came alive with art, music, and dinner under the stars.​​

The fort stood witness to it all — reminding us that leadership is not only about vision, but also about community, culture, and continuity.​

As the Confluence drew to a close, members didn’t just leave with ideas — they carried home memories, moments of laughter, learning, and connection that will stay with them long after Bishangarh.”​​
