Our comrade the brave labor leader .smalls_ has been kidnapped by Israel as he attempted to deliver food aid to the people of with 20 others aboard the

The Gaza Freedom Flotilla reports that U.S. human rights advocate Chris Smalls was physically assaulted while in Israeli custody by seven uniformed individuals, resulting in visible injuries to his neck and back.

When his lawyer met with him, Chris was surrounded by six members of Israel’s special police unit. This was an excessive show of force not applied to other detained activists.

This treatment is unacceptable ‼️😤

What is the word for waiting
as the guillotine swishes through the air—
Is that a pause

What about when the gun c***s?
That one-two click…
Is that a pause

The ticking time of the fuse
running with light and fire.
Is that too a pause

The flames aglow with ruthless majesty
pursuing and consuming all in their path.
Is their hiss and smoke a pause

The time it takes for the bomb to drop
from the plane above.
I guess that too is a pause

As we plummet down
soaring weightless through the air—
A pause yet again

When water rushes into our lungs,
as the cold depths pull us deep…
Another quiet pause

The pull of the knife across one’s throat,
this time a slicing pause

The flight of the bullet from the rifle
to the target—
Another long pause

It seems we have been surrounded
by pauses this entire time.
Yet I cannot catch my breath

Seconds before becoming daisies.
I want to be like those poets who care about the moon.
Palestinians don’t see the moon from jail cells and prisons.
It’s so beautiful, the moon
They’re so beautiful, the flowers.
I pick flowers for my dead father when I’m sad.
He watches Al Jazeera all day.
I wish Jessica would stop texting me Happy Ramadan.
I know I’m American because when I walk into a room something dies.
Metaphors about death are for poets who think ghosts care about sounds.
When I die, I promise to haunt you forever.
One day I will write about the flowers like we own them.
