83 murders a day in South Africa — that’s where we usually start. But this week we’re going beyond Africa.

Gérard Labuschagne and Paul Viv are joined by retired LA Sheriff’s arson detective Ed Nordskog to uncover the chilling case of Justin Caruso, a serial arsonist whose crimes spanned three US states.

Caruso wasn’t just setting fires. He staged them to look like accidents, inserted himself into rescues, and even won awards for being a “hero.” But one blaze killed a 74-year-old man, and another nearly claimed a second victim.

This is Profiler Africa’s first global case — and it’s one you won’t forget.

Live Premier Date: 9 Jan 8pm CAT. In 2015, the brutal and highly publicized murder of Gabriela Kabrins Alban shocked both South Africa and the international community. Gabriela, a successful marketing executive from California, was found dead in a Cape Town hotel room under circumstances that were as bizarre as they were horrific. Her boyfriend, Diego Novella, a wealthy Guatemalan national with a history of drug use, was later convicted of her murder.

This week on Profiler Africa, forensic psychologist Gerard Labuschagne discusses the complexities of the case, exploring the toxic dynamics of Gabriela and Diego’s relationship and the psychological factors at play in the events leading up to her death.
