‘A Cromer sunset, at high tide.’

A re-stylised working of a recent shot I captured on the North Norfolk coast, at sunset.
Just yellows and darker tones, through the crashing of a wave with the silhouettes of the Hotel de Paris on the clifftop, and the pier leading out to sea.

I hope that you might like my creative interpretation here.
My son helped me, letting me know when a suitable wave was incoming.., and if you’re wondering, yes, my camera did get somewhat wet. Oops! (And so did we! 😆)

Very warm UK summertime wishes to all,

‘Sunrise over Cromer Pier.’

A few days ago after a very early alarm call, my son and I headed to Cromer pier to take a few sunrise shots.
I’m pleased that we did, as it was a very clear morning.

He took some really great shots! And this is one of mine, which I quite like.
The two huts atop the pier, gleaming under the light of a new day.

For me, a new sunrise gives an incredibly special feeling. And doubly special when shared with a loved one.

I do hope that you may like this.

My good wishes to you, as ever,

‘A solitary Jub Jub Bird.’

During a mindful stroll along the coastal path near Blakeney, I came across this ‘Jub Jub Bird’ just taking a rest.
I didn’t hang around, just in case the Jabberwocky was nearby.. [*Lewis Carrol]

I thought it made for a quiet and reflective shot.

Peaceful wishes to you,

‘A shoreline breaker.’

An evening capture of the spray shooting skywards, after a wave crashes down onto the pebbly shoreline of Cromer beach.

I’m pleased with the energy that comes through in this shot. It took quite a few attempts!

More seascapes to come, I’m sure,

‘An English Yew tree, and the morning light.’

I have walked past this tree at the east end of the cathedral, hundreds of times over the past few years. And earlier today I thought how resplendent it looked under the morning light.
I felt thankful to be there at that moment in time.

I’ve tried to retain as much honesty in my edit as possible, while drawing out the interest and detail that I saw and felt at that time. I hope my fellow tree-loving-followers might like this.

Every good wish to you,

‘A mindful stroll’ [through the creeping thistle]

Since June ‘24 and the inception of ‘The Ely Monk’, photography has become a real passion of mine. It’s such a helpful form of both escapism, and creativity.

It has also helped me to enjoy the benefits of mindfulness, which is something I’d previously struggled to be accepting of.

One of my favourite books is “A Mindful Photographer’ by Sophie Howarth.
I’ve realised that is probably what I am. And I’m very okay with that.
It explains why I enjoy dabbling in so many differing photographic genres; preferably with a mindful slant to them. Which I think, most of my shots do.

This is a real journey of self-discovery for me, and I’m happy to be able to share some of my journey with you.

As always, I give you my best wishes,

‘Peeping through a hedgerow.’ {digitally watercolourised}

An impromptu capture while taking an early wander near the lakes (Roswell Pits).

More as casual practice rather than anything, and then digitally watercolourised for my own pleasure.
But, after sharing my creations with my daughter, she thought I should share it with you. So here you are!

Nature-filled best wishes to you,

‘Coming in hot.’ [on The River Great Ouse]

It’s wonderful to watch so many swans enjoying life in and around the river at the moment. I caught this one coming in to land at a great rate of knots!

I also took a few shots of a family going out for a paddle. The parents trying their best to keep their 7 signets in some sort of a line. I do not envy them! 😊
I’ll work on those shots, soon.

My best wishes to you,

‘Abstract poppies, swaying in the breeze.’

A capture of a patch of a local field, full of delicate poppies swaying in the gentle breeze.

This form of blurred long-exposure photography, essentially a form of abstract photography, is something which me and my brain enjoy returning to.

On the face of it, it’s quite pretty. But thinking more deeply it reminds me of my usual view of such beauty when whizzing past in the car. Stopping to look and take in what is around me can often be a very rewarding thing to do. And I’m reminded to do it more often.

Anyway, I do hope that you’ve all had an especially fine weekend,

‘The temptations of an oak tree.’ [in muted sepia tones]

A curious perspective through this wonderfully mature oak tree, taken from Cherry Hill park with the cathedral in the far distance.

Laden with fresh acorns, it is awaiting the local squirrel community to plunder its generous bounty.

Good wishes to all, whatever you may be up to this weekend,

‘Turbulent skies over Ely.’ {digitally watercolourised}

My original photograph was taken through the (now dried out) cow parsley on the verge of a narrow country lane, during the current spell of inclement weather.

Earlier today, while dipping in and out of my “Lagom” book (The Swedish Art of Balanced Living), and savouring my very delicious coffee { ☕️ 😊 } I felt the mindful urge to create this. And so I did. And I hope that a few of you might like it.

My good wishes to all, and have a great day,

‘Stormy skies and The Ship..’ [..of The Fens]

Taken from Quanea Drove, just to the east of Ely.

I’ve recently enjoyed a veritable plethora of clouds types and shapes, and wanted to incorporate a moody sky into a scene of the local farmland landscape. And of course the cathedral.

And indeed to keep the scene as minimalistic as possible.

I hope that you might like this photographic / artistic style. Even though it’s visually rather simple, it is created with genuine feeling.

Cheers all,
