Styling my with some socks from (they have the greatest cycling socks and the designs are wild! I use them as dress socks all the time).
People always ask if my shoes are comfortable, and the answer is yes! I learned that lesson the long, hard, and expensive way. I wear a 10 1/2-11 and I spent years cramming my feet into ill fitting shoes. When I was growing up stores never carried any shoe over a size 10. 😢 Now, I won’t wear any shoes that hurt, which is one reason I love my Fluevogs. I am traveling in this pair today, and I can walk all day in these beauties. And they are gorgeous. I had rules of life as a young adult, and one was that you could never own too many pairs of clunky black shoes! 🤪
Here are my tips to prevent buyer’s remorse:
If they pinch or rub in anyway you will regret them and either they will sit in your closet and silently judge you or you will end up with blood on your socks and a large collection of wadded up band-aids and pain. Do not fool yourself into “they will stretch.” Shoes can lie! Trying on the shoes in the store is like a first date. Any warning signs, they go back in the shelf. Don’t make excuses! Yes, I know they are pretty. I’ve been there.
Be careful with patent. It looks shiny and pretty (I am like a magpie and I covet patent), but patent doesn’t soften the same way, and so it can end up rubbing in weird places. Also, if the patent gets damaged, the wear and tear looks more obvious. Be patent selective.
Be careful of trends. Hopefully, your shoes will last many seasons. If I want something that seems more trendy, I look at and I have found some super on trend and comfy shoes there, and I have been pleasantly surprised at how well they lasted.
Know what works for you and don’t veer from the path. Like Bilbo and the Company in the Hobbit leaving the Mirkwood trail, don’t stray, it is is dangerous! For example, I have a super high arch, and I need boots with a zip or that are really loose in the ankle, otherwise…pain.
Don’t keep shoes that hurt or you don’t wear. It costs psychic energy. Give them away so they can be loved by someone else! All shoes deserve love! Dr jennifer gunter
