Darren Condron writes about how books marketed for women are looked down upon by the literary elite, while books for male audiences are praised for the same content.

“Marketing has also played its part. Book covers by female authors often featured images of
stiletto heels, cocktails or bright pastel colours, reinforcing the idea that these books were
not to be taken seriously. But was the criticism ever really about the stories themselves, or
was it discomfort from a male-dominated literary world uneasy with women taking up space
in publishing?”

Chief of Sports Torna Mulconry gives us an in depth match report of ‘s game last week, which also led to their win of this years championship. brought home the historic Sigerson Cup.

‘Off course games are not won on singular moments and DCU had star performers all over the field. Leitrim’s Tom Prior can rightly feel aggrieved to just miss out on man of the match as he excelled scoring three from play in the big moments. While the collective full back line of Bryan Masterson, Luke Glennon and Alex Gavin also impressed, combining to keep the highly touted Roscommon star Daire Cregg scoreless from play. Despite the best efforts from Callum Bolten and Darragh McElearney who managed second half goals for UCD, you just got the sense it was DCU’s day as captain Ciaren Caulfield maundered up the field late one for an excellent point either side of the challenger’s goals. The score at full time read 1-16 to 3-6 in what was a marvellous DCU display.‘

‘The Dublin icon that has been a symbol of Ireland for decades will feature as the shirt sponsor for Bohemian’s away strip for the 2025 season. This marks the third jersey that the North Dublin club has released in the off-season, with a home shirt marking their 135th anniversary and a third kit in collaboration with Dublin-based band Fontaines D.C. who are on tour after releasing their 4th studio album ‘Romance’ last summer.’

Evan Dalton gives us insight on what the new future of Indycar racing may look like under new leadership.

‘With Indycar starting a new era on FOX Sports, being broadcast on a network other than NBC for the first time since 2018, it is a perfect time for change at the helm. Indycar will have all 17 races this year broadcast on national television, and has already stepped up its marketing efforts. FOX featured Indycar drivers Josef Newgarden, Alex Palou and Pato O’Ward in three separate commercials that were played at peak times during this year’s Super Bowl.‘

Deputy of Sports Tiarnán O’Kelly gives us an insight on Bohs new signings.

‘Bohs signs former Premier League striker, Wicklow wonderkid chooses Spurs, and the first Irish man in the Turkish Super League; Football’s January Transfer recap from an Irish perspective.

Lys Mousset, Mason Melia, and Festy Ebosele are three players who arguably made the most eye-catching and interesting moves of the January transfer window.’

Rory Tallon tells us all about the Philadelphia Eagles win over the Kansas City Chiefs last week, at the Super Bowl LIX.

‘Super Bowl LIX was a legacy game for both quarterbacks for two very different reasons. Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes, in search of his 4th Super Bowl ring and the first 3-peat this century, has been dubbed by various pundits as Tom Brady’s predecessor and could take his crown as the greatest to ever play the sport. Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts was out for vengeance after Mahomes ruined his Super Bowl debut back in 2023 and intended to join Tom Brady as the only quarterback to beat Mahomes in the Super Bowl. ’

Dylan Clarkin gives us a review of the NFL Championship games.

‘The race for the Vince Lombardi trophy reached its home stretch on Sunday with the Conference Championship games. In the NFC, the Washington Commanders were hoping to keep their Cinderella playoff run alive after upsetting the 1st seed Detroit Lions in the Divisional Round. To do so they would have to get past their NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, who themselves were looking to return to the Super Bowl to avenge their loss two years previous. Meanwhile Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills were travelling to Arrowhead Stadium hoping to finally slay their white whale and overcome the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs, after falling to Mahomes and co in the postseason 3 times in the last 5 years. Kansas City for their part, were chasing a historic 3rd consecutive Super Bowl win. ’

Oisín O’Brien gives us a review of Kendrick Lamar’s performance at the Super Bowl with an in depth review on the symbolism of certain aspects of the performance.

‘From Uncle Sam to the final coffin nails being nailed in for Drake following the beef.

Kendrick Lamar promised “storytelling” in his Super Bowl Halftime performance in New Orleans, and over 13 minutes, he delivered a career-spanning set packed with visual and cultural symbolism. Against a backdrop of dancers dressed in red, white, and blue, Lamar not only addressed a politically divided America but also seemingly closed the chapter on his long-running feud with Drake.’

Jenna Thompson gives us a review of the Oscar nominees ahead of the event next month, and gives us her opinion on which nominations deserved their nominations, which ones didn’t, and which ones should’ve been nominated.

‘The nominations for the 97th Academy Awards have been announced, sparking excitement, debate, and inevitable disappointment. While some films have found their place in the Oscar spotlight, others have been left in the dark, leaving film fans wondering: has the Oscars 2025 missed the mark?’

Iara Moreira tell us all about her thoughts on creating a bingo card for semester 2, as well as how to do so.

‘Bingo has become a popular trend online, growing since 2023 when the internet was introduced to boyfriend/girlfriend bingo at the same time as jjjacksfilm’s “SSSniperWolf bbbingo”. This changed the idea of bingo from being a game played by people in retirement homes to being a fun challenge or competition where you try to come up with creative spaces and fill them out.’
