The Democratic Republic of Congo and the Rwanda-backed M23 rebel group have signed a new peace deal in Qatar to end years of fighting in eastern DRC. Qatar and the US call it a โcomprehensiveโ roadmap to stop the violence and ease the humanitarian crisis. The two sides have been in talks for months and previously agreed to a July truce. The plan includes eight steps, with two already signed: monitoring the ceasefire and exchanging prisoners. The remaining steps, to be finalized in the coming weeks, will set timelines, ensure aid delivery, help displaced people return home, restore state authority, reform the economy, reintegrate fighters, and remove foreign armed groups.
