I've had enough with Chromebooks in elementary schools.

It's time for us to ease up on all the technology inside of the school systems.

Bring back computer labs and chrome carts and stop giving kids who haven't even hit puberty supercomputers to take home.

I am so happy that more and more states are starting to bans phones at school.

Unfortunately, we have a lot of anxious parents digging in their heels.

Never ever has a smartphone ever made a student more safe

If crap hits the fan and there is an emergency, you want your kid to be alert and attentive and listening to the adults and not distracted by their phone trying to call you.

So instead of tracking and surveilling your kid and giving them a smartphone to ease your anxiety, go get some help so you don't end up projecting that anxiety on to them

I'm really not trying to be judgmental here. But our kids don't need to be collateral damage for our poor mental health.

This is also why we need regulatory laws around ai. Kids are paying the price.

There is some sort of a glitch with Roblox attempting to verify age with photos

Several kid accounts have been prompted to take a selfie and then Roblox estimates their age. Except we have literal 9-year-olds whose age are being changed to 15.

For those whose age is mistakenly being increased dramatically, they are also losing the parental controls associated with the lower age.

This is more than just a big hiccup, this is a real threat to digital safety for kids who are on the platform.

Yet another reason why my kids are nowhere near the platform.

Let your kids be uncomfortable. Let them fail and take accountability for their shortcomings so that they can make improvements and progress as a human

If you continually blame other people and make up excuses for them, they're going to be making up excuses for themselves their whole life.

It's okay to fail! And it's okay to take accountability for that so that we can improve.

There are a few new faces around here! Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Nate Webb. I'm a school counselor, father of four, national speaker, and I have a huge passion for helping others be resilient.

I share a lot about helping parents raise resilient kids in this Tech heavy world. I'm really passionate about digital safety, bullying prevention, and helping people take control of their own happiness.

So thank you for being here! I definitely don't have all the answers. I'm just your friendly neighborhood school counselor trying to make the internet a better place.

So many great things have happened in 2025.

I've spoken in more schools than ever before
I was able to give a TED Talk
I was able to partner with amazing companies who care about kids
I was able to help more families than ever before.

And I have YOU to thank for all of that.

Thank you for being here. I notice and appreciate every single one of you.

Let's finish strong 💪

It doesn't HAVE to be a holiday break for you to use your phone less.

It can just be the norm.

Being present.
Not comparing.
Living life.

Wouldn't that be something

Hang in there parents! Everyone is tired, grumpy, and overstimulated.

Don't feel guilty doing what you have to do so you don't lose your cool with your kids.

For us that meant a little bit more tv time today. 😬

Just remember, holidays are the exception, not the norm.

You'll get back to that routine, I promise
