It’s a holiday mood….

“So to what extent do you believe? Agathe repeated.
“Yes and no,” Ulrich said.
“That means no,” Agathe concluded.

“cinema of intensity and presence….”

—On June 8,1998 Kurt Kren visited his ‘stammcafé’—Café Jelinek—one last time. He was in bad shape, obviously ill. On the night of June 23, he was found dead in his apartment. A friend, worried about his long absence, had used a spare key to enter Kren’s home. The cause of death was attributed to circulatory and respiratory complications due to a protracted case of pneumonia. On September 20, Kurt would have been 69 years old—

“Maybe we weren’t brave enough.”

Congratulations to filmmaker Mo Harawe. His debut feature ‘The Village Next to Paradise’ swept the board at this year’s Austrian Film Awards—including Best Film, Best Screenplay, and Best Director.

Read the exclusive in-conversation piece between Harawe and actor/author Claus Philipp.

Claus: If someone in Somalia asked you: “What is Austria?”, or “What is it like there?”, how would you describe Austria?

Mo: No one has ever asked me that before! It’s the first time I’ve had to answer this question! I would say: Austria is a small country, so it looks like a small country from the outside, in every respect—but it’s the
opposite when you get to know it from the inside.
