*CAGD Takes Over Allowance Payments for Nursing and Teacher Trainees*
President John Dramani Mahama has made a groundbreaking announcement that is set to bring relief to thousands of nursing and teacher trainees across Ghana.
The Controller and Accountant-General's Department (CAGD) will now be responsible for the direct disbursement of allowances to these trainees, putting an end to the long-standing issue of delayed payments.
This significant policy shift was announced during President Mahama's "Thank You Tour" in Tamale on Saturday, March 22, where he engaged with students, professionals, and community leaders to outline key policy measures aimed at improving the livelihoods of Ghanaians.
For years, nursing and teacher trainees in Ghana have faced persistent challenges with the disbursement of their monthly allowances, with many experiencing delays that span several months. This has made it difficult for them to cater to their basic needs, including transportation, feeding, and study materials.
Recognizing the impact of these delays on trainees' welfare and their ability to focus on their education,
President Mahama emphasized that this new measure would bring an end to the inconsistencies in allowance payments.
"There is good news for teacher and nursing trainees," President Mahama declared. "Nursing and teacher trainees allowances are to be paid directly by the Controller and Accountant-General.
This has been made a part of the compensations item in the budget and this will permanently eliminate the delay in trainees receiving their allowances. This means that anytime public sector workers receive their monthly salaries, teacher and nursing trainees will also receive their allowances."
