Front Seat Feasts might be my favorite way to survive sports parent life. This stop took me to for the first time, and honestly? I was impressed by how many chicken salad options they had.

I went with a savory Southern-style version loaded with sweet pickles, which immediately felt like the correct choice because sweet pickles are wildly underrated. It made the perfect quick car dinner while waiting for soccer practice to wrap up.

Sometimes you just need a quick reset mid-errands, and for us that looked like a little mommy & me stop at . Bea got her usual (cake pop, obviously), I grabbed a latte, and we took a minute to sit instead of sprinting to the next thing. Not groundbreaking… but exactly what we needed.

She’s been asking for more “chit-chats” lately—her term for one-on-one time with me or her dad—and it stuck with me. As one of three, she doesn’t always get that solo time, so these quick coffee dates feel like a win. After a little Boys Who Brunch KC hiatus (turns out mom life + work life can really steal your brunch time), we’re officially back and easing into it with a spot that’s been on our list for a while: in Lenexa. And honestly… starting back with Southern brunch comfort food feels like the right move.

If you love Southern brunch classics, Tupelo Honey delivers. The goat cheese grits alone might be worth the trip—creamy, rich, and the perfect savory bite alongside their hearty dishes. Our table went all in on brunch favorites: the Farmer’s Plate breakfast, Mountain Morning Bowl, spicy chicken sandwich, a kids waffle, and of course a couple spicy Bloody Marys to round things out. Every plate came out hot, fresh, and full of those cozy Southern flavors.

Sometimes you don’t realize how much you miss a spot until you’re back at the table. 🍕✨ A recent visit to was one of those why did we wait so long? moments—and honestly, it delivered in the best way.

We went all in with the chicken Alfredo pasta (creamy, comforting, and surprisingly crave-worthy) and of course couldn’t leave without ordering their famous pizza. Hot, fresh, loaded with flavor—the kind of pizza that reminds you why it’s been a classic for so long. Trying the newer pasta dishes alongside those OG pies felt like the perfect mix of nostalgic and new.

Best part? Every single person at the table—kids and adults—left happy and full. It had been way too long since we’d been to Old Chicago, and this visit was a solid reminder that some favorites never really go out of style.

We stopped by in Shawnee to check out their Afterglow winter pop-up, and honestly? This is the kind of post-holiday energy we’re here for. Moody lighting, warm vibes, and drinks that feel like a hug when it’s still very much winter in Kansas City.

Afterglow is running through the end of the month with specialty cocktails, creative mocktails, and their always-on-point brewed-in-house beers—aka something for everyone in your group. It’s festive without being holiday-heavy, cozy without feeling sleepy, and fun without trying too hard (the dream combo).

Holiday pop-up season is officially underway in Kansas City, and Frosted Reef at Landshark inside was such a pleasant surprise. This Kansas City holiday pop-up leans coastal and festive in all the right ways — the food was legitimately delicious, and the holiday cocktails were fun, fresh, and totally on-brand for anyone who loves a beach-meets-Christmas vibe.

It’s a 21+ spot, which is outside our usual family-friendly groove, but sometimes a grown-up night out is exactly the move. Frosted Reef has that perfect mix of “holiday bar KC” energy with a laid-back coastal twist — truly a quick escape without ever leaving town.
