Karl Stefanovic made an outrageous and baseless claim on the Today show on Monday morning when he said, ‘I’m hearing this morning that the crowd was yelling stuff out about Reece’s daughter.’

There is absolutely no evidence to support this claim, and Walsh’s response to the crowd — casually flipping them the bird and then rubbing his fingers together as if to suggest he is more ‘cashed up’ than them — hardly seems like the reaction of someone whose family has been verbally attacked.

But the thing is once a story like this gets put out there it soon becomes accepted by many as fact.

With Billy Slater then saying that targeting Walsh’s daughter is unacceptable and that players’ families should always be off limits.
‘I wasn’t aware of that — this is the first time I’ve heard of that kind of abuse being directed at Reece, and it’s terrible. Seriously, why would anyone say something like that?’

Yet once again, there is absolutely no evidence to support any of this. Karl Stefanovic chose to tarnish the reputation of all Raiders supporters and Canberrans in an attempt to excuse Walsh’s poor behaviour.

Raiders CEO Don Furner probably put it best when he said it was a case of the ‘Broncos’ PR machine going into overdrive as usual’.
