THE TIME OF THE PROMISE
KEY VERSE: âBut when the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egyptâ (Acts 7:17).
TEXT: ACTS 7:17-35
Booker T. Washington recalls a story of an ex-slave from Virginia who had made a contract with his master before the Emancipation Proclamation, agreeing to buy himself by paying off his debt over time. Despite being freed by the proclamation, the ex-slave felt obligated to honour his agreement with his former master. He eventually paid off his debt, even though he was not legally bound to do so, as a matter of personal integrity and commitment. This act of fulfilling his promise was important to him, as he believed he could not truly enjoy his freedom until he had settled his debt. The ex-slaveâs story exemplifies a strong sense of honour and integrity, showing the importance of keeping oneâs word and honouring commitments, even in the face of adversity and changing circumstances.
Our passage forms part of Stephenâs defence before the Sanhedrin on the false accusation levelled against him bordering on blasphemy against God, the temple, and the Mosaic Law. His preaching had offended the synagogue of the Libertines (Jews who had been taken captive by the Romans in war and later set free and possibly had a separate synagogue in Jerusalem). They were not âable to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spakeâ (Acts 6:10,12); they summoned him before the Jewish council. Stephen thus began his speech by tracing the historical relationship which existed between God and Abraham (verses 1-8), Joseph (verses 9-19), Moses (verses 20-44) and David (verses 45-47).
Notably, narrating how God used Moses to deliver the Israelites, which forms the main thrust of our discourse, Stephen opined that the deliverance occurred when God needed to fulfil His promise to Abraham. This gives a clear testimony of Godâs faithfulness and sovereignty. He honours His word more than His name! It means that despite the continued failures of His chosen people and the changing events in the world, God was working out His plan for His people.
Therefore, when faced with challenges, we should also remember His promises of deliverance, salvation, prosperity, etc.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: God does not act late; He acts at the right time.

MOSES FORETELLS THE MESSIAH
MEMORY VERSE: âI will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command himâ (Deuteronomy 18:18).
TEXT: DEUTERONOMY 18:16-19
Prophets of God generally predict things that must surely come to pass. Seeing into the future, they speak in the name of the Lord. The Bible says, â⌠when the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then shall the prophet be known, that the LORD hath truly sent himâ (Jeremiah 28:9). Moses predicted that the Messiah (the Prophet) was to be a man, a Jew who would declare the word of God unto them.
The prophecy was fulfilled in Christ. Christ alone was like unto Moses as a Prophet. Christ was like unto Moses in respect to His office of mediation between God and man, in faithfulness, in signs and wonders and as a lawgiver. Christ alone resembles Moses but infinitely greater. Christ is the King of kings and Lord of lords. In all available records of universal history, none was like to Moses as Christ was. Phillip exclaimed, âwe found Him of whom Moses in the law and the prophets did write to be Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God." Follow Christ and not a social media idol.
QUOTE: Christ alone was like unto Moses.
PRAYER: Help me to obey Christ in all things, Oh God.
CHALLENGE: God the Father said, âHear ye himâ

FORWARD EVER.
KEY VERSE: âAnd it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee ...â Genesis 19:17a
TEXT: GENESIS 19:17-22
The will and plan of God for you is that you will make progress in all areas of your life- spiritually, physically, socially and academically. What is important is that you obey His word. Obedience to divine direction is the key to expecting the blessings of God.
Lot and his family escaped divine judgment that came on S***m and Gomorrah. Then the instruction of the angels was that they should not look back. When his wife remembered all the things she had left behind, she looked back and she became a pillar of salt.
Just like Lot's wife, many children don't like to obey simple instruction. They profess to be friends of Jesus who are seeking the kingdom of God, yet somehow, they are looking backward. They can't totally forsake all the things they used to have and do, so that they might enjoy the full package of salvation that comes from Christ.
God has a good plan for your life and He does not want you to miss out because of disobedience. His will is for you to go forward with faith, trusting Him to take care of you all along the way.
PRAYER: Lord, I receive strength to go forward and make progress in life.
