Tom Johnston is 77 years old today.

Johnston is an American musician. He is a guitarist and vocalist, known principally as a founder, guitarist, lead vocalist and songwriter for the rock group The Doobie Brothers, as well as for his own solo career.

Throughout much of an initial seven-year and six-album discography, Johnston wrote and sang many of The Doobie Brothers' early hits, including "Listen to the Music" ( #11 Top 100 Billboard Hit −1972), "Rockin' Down the Highway," "China Grove" ( #15 Billboard Hot 100 Hit), "Long Train Runnin'" ( #8 Billboard Hot 100 Hit), "Another Park, Another Sunday" ( #32 Billboard Hot 100 Hit), and "Eyes of Silver" ( #52 Billboard Hot 100 Hit). He also sang the hit song "Take Me in Your Arms" ( #11 Billboard Hot 100 Hit −1975) (written by Holland-Dozier-Holland).

The Doobie Brother have sold more than 40 million records worldwide.

In 1975, following years of a road touring lifestyle and health issues surrounding stomach ulcers which stood as a challenge since high school, Johnston became severely ill on the eve of a major tour beginning in Memphis, Tennessee to promote Stampede.
Johnston's condition was so precarious that he required emergency hospitalization for a bleeding ulcer. With Johnston convalescing and the tour already underway, fellow Doobie Brother Jeff Baxter proposed recruiting a fellow Steely Dan alum to fill the hole. This led to the emergency hiring of Michael McDonald, who became the lead singer of the band.

Johnston joined The Doobie Brothers when they reunited for a brief tour in 1987. This event led to the permanent reformation of the band, with Johnston again performing alongside co-founder Simmons. Johnston co-wrote, sang and contributed a signature guitar solo to the group's last major chart hit, "The Doctor" (from 1989's Cycles).

He has played off and on with The Doobie Brothers for 50 years, in several styles.

He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Doobie Brothers in 2020.

IIn 2023, Johnston, McDonald, and Simmons (as the Doobie Brothers) were nominated for induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In addition, a continuation of their 50th Anniversary tour was planned for the year. In May 2023, it was reported that Johnston would not tour with the Doobie Brothers on the upcoming leg of their 50th-anniversary tour due to a back injury.

In 2024 a fully healed Tom Johnston rejoined the Doobies, who continued on with their 50th Anniversary tour.

On June 6, 2025, the band released a new album titled Walk This Road.

Billy Griffin is 75 years old today.

Griffin is an American singer and songwriter. He is best known for replacing Smokey Robinson as lead singer of The Miracles in 1972.

During The Miracles' nationwide 1972 Farewell Tour with Smokey Robinson, Griffin was introduced by Robinson as his replacement in The Miracles as lead singer. Griffin released his first single with the Miracles, "What Is a Heart Good For", from their first post-Robinson album, Renaissance in 1973. Griffin sang this song on his first national television appearance as a Miracle with the remaining group members of The Miracles, Bobby Rogers, Ronnie White, and Pete Moore on another NBC music program, The Midnight Special, in 1973, hosted by Robinson. The single was withdrawn and replaced with a ballad, "Don't Let It End (Till You Let It Begin)", which was a mild hit. After a second single, "Give Me Just Another Day", was released later that year, Under the management of Martin Pichinson, The Miracles released "Do It Baby" in 1974, which peaked at #4 on the Billboard R&B charts and became the group's first bona-fide hit with Griffin.

Like Robinson before him, Griffin co-wrote many of the Miracles' songs, in addition to singing lead. Griffin and original Miracles member Pete Moore wrote all of the Miracles' 1975 platinum selling album, City of Angels. During his tenure with the group, they recorded three hits: "Do It Baby" in 1974, and the Miracles' most successful single, the number-one hit "Love Machine", in 1975 which sold 4.5 million records worldwide. Griffin also sung lead on "Don't Cha Love It", a Top 10 R&B #4 single.

The Miracles left Motown in 1976, signing with Columbia Records. After two albums for Columbia, Griffin and Moore decided to retire from performing and focus on songwriting.

Griffin has written songs and sung backing vocals for Aretha Franklin, The O'Jays, Ronald Isley, Freda Payne, Edwin Starr, Evelyn Champagne King, Herb Alpert, Martine McCutcheon, The Emotions and many others.

In 2012, the Miracles were inducted into the Hall of Fame as a group, but Griffin was not included.

Tommy Aldridge is 75 years old today.

Aldridge is an American heavy metal and hard rock drummer. He is noted for his work with numerous bands and artists since the 1970s, such as Black Oak Arkansas, Pat Travers Band, Ozzy Osbourne, Gary Moore, Whitesnake, Ted Nugent, Thin Lizzy, Vinnie Moore and Yngwie Malmsteen.

In 1972, Aldridge auditioned for Black Oak Arkansas and was surprised to get the job. He made his recording debut in 1972 with Black Oak Arkansas' If an Angel Came to See You, Would You Make Her Feel at Home? album. He subsequently recorded several albums with the band between 1972 and 1976 and toured extensively.

Aldridge spent 1978 to 1981 with the Pat Travers Band, recording five albums over that time.

Aldridge and American guitarist Randy Rhoads became friends when Aldridge began working with Gary Moore and Rhoads was beginning to record with Ozzy Osbourne. Aldridge had known Osbourne for several years, as Black Oak Arkansas had toured with Osbourne's previous band Black Sabbath extensively in the 1970s, and Aldridge's new friendship with Rhoads would lead him to join Osbourne's band a few months later. Although Aldridge is credited in the liner notes and pictured on the inner sleeve of Osbourne's 1981 album Diary of a Madman, Lee Kerslake actually performed all the drum parts on the original release. Aldridge has stated that working with Rhoads in Osbourne's band was one of the "musical highlights" of his life. Rhoads stated of Aldridge in late 1981 that "he was always my favorite drummer", stating that he was "knocked out" by the drummer after seeing him perform with Black Oak Arkansas on television in the 1970s. Aldridge appeared on Osbourne's Bark at the Moon album in 1983 as well as a pair of live albums (Speak of the Devil and Tribute) before leaving the band in 1984.

Aldridge joined Whitesnake in 1987 as the band prepared to tour in support of its multi-platinum selling Whitesnake album. Aldridge performed on the band's follow-up album, Slip of the Tongue, released in 1989. Announcing he was going to take a break from the music industry, Whitesnake frontman David Coverdale put the band on indefinite hiatus after the tour, and Aldridge moved on.

During the 1990s Aldridge recorded and toured with various acts including Motörhead, House of Lords, Yngwie Malmsteen, John Sykes, and Ted Nugent.

On January 25, 2013, it was announced that Aldridge had rejoined Whitesnake for the third time for the band's upcoming "Year of the Snake" tour. He has since recorded the albums Flesh & Blood and The Purple Album with the group and remains their drummer as of August 2023.

We Love Steve Martin!!!

🎉 Happy 80th Birthday, Steve Martin! 🎉

Born August 14, 1945, Steve Martin brought his sharp wit and offbeat charm into the 1980s, becoming one of the decade’s most beloved comedic stars. Already a household name from stand-up and TV, he lit up the big screen with films like The Jerk, Pennies from Heaven, The Man with Two Brains, and the 1987 classic Planes, Trains & Automobiles. He also showed a gentler side in Roxanne and Parenthood, proving his range went far beyond pure comedy. An accomplished banjo player and bluegrass musician, Steve blended humor and music with ease, making him a true entertainer whose work has stood the test of time. At 80, he remains one of America’s most versatile and enduring talents.

Danny Bonaduce is 66 years old today.

Bonaduce is an American actor, comedian, radio personality, television personality, and professional wrestler.

Bonaduce is the son of veteran TV writer and producer Joseph Bonaduce (The Dick Van D**e Show, One Day at a Time, and others).

Bonaduce became famous as a child actor of the 1970s on the TV sitcom The Partridge Family. He co-starred as Danny Partridge, the wisecracking, redheaded middle son of the singing family band (headed by Shirley Jones), and he played the fictional pop group's bass guitar player.

The studio concoction that forms the Partridge Family sound features lead singer David Cassidy, members of the Ron Hicklin Singers as backing vocalists, and several of the era's most highly regarded studio musicians, now known as "the Wrecking Crew". Cassidy's co-star and real-life stepmother Shirley Jones also features on the recordings, although there remains speculation that she can be heard more prominently in the television mixes of the songs than in the album mixes. In each episode of the sitcom the television family of six are seen on screen together in recording sessions and concert performances, playing the part of performers, but none except Cassidy and Jones was involved in any of the actual recordings.

Bonaduce's self-titled debut LP was released in 1973 by Lion Records, a subsidiary label of MGM Records. The single from the album, "Dreamland" was a minor hit.

Since then, Bonaduce has starred in several other TV series, including the VH1 reality show Breaking Bonaduce in 2005, radio shows in Los Angeles and Philadelphia and has been hosting a morning talk/music show at Seattle radio station KZOK-FM since November 14, 2011.

On April 29, 2022, Bonaduce announced that he was taking a temporary medical leave from his Seattle radio show to pursue treatment for an undisclosed illness.

In December 2023, Bonaduce announced his retirement from Seattle radio and his planned relocation to Palm Springs, California.

The late Dan Fogelberg was born on this day in 1951.

Dan is best known for his 1980s hits, including "Longer" (1980), "Leader of the Band" (1981), and "Same Old Lang Syne" (1981).

Dan was discovered while attending University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign by Irving Azoff, who started his music management career promoting another Champaign-Urbana act, REO Speedwagon. Azoff sent Dan to Nashville, Tennessee, to hone his skills. There he became a session musician and recorded his first album with producer Norbert Putnam. In 1972, Fogelberg released his debut album "Home Free" to a lukewarm response, although it eventually reached platinum status. He performed as an opening act for Van Morrison.

Fogelberg's second effort was more successful – the 1974 Joe Walsh-produced album Souvenirs. The song "Part of the Plan" became Fogelberg's first hit. After Souvenirs, he released a string of gold and platinum albums, including Captured Angel (1975) and Nether Lands (1977). His 1978 Twin Sons of Different Mothers was the first of two collaborations with jazz flautist Tim Weisberg, which found commercial success with songs such as "The Power of Gold". Phoenix, from 1979, reached the top 10, with "Longer" becoming a number-2 pop hit (and wedding standard) in 1980.

The Innocent Age, released in October 1981, was Fogelberg's critical and commercial peak. The double album included four of his biggest hits: "Same Old Lang Syne", "Hard to Say", "Leader of the Band", and "Run for the Roses". He drew inspiration for The Innocent Age from Thomas Wolfe's novel Of Time and the River. A 1982 greatest hits album contained two new songs, both of which were released as singles: "Missing You" and "Make Love Stay." In 1984, he released the album Windows and Walls, containing the singles "The Language of Love" and "Believe in Me."

Dan Fogelberg died at home on December 16, 2007 at the age of 56.
