This is why I really hate Donald Trump. He makes me do things I don't want to do. As a life-long Republican, he made me start agreeing with Democrats in 2015. And now he has turned me into a tin-foil hat wearing conspiracy theory person -
- Suspend belief that that someone with a rifle (AR no less) could get within 10 miles of a Presidential nominee. Secret Service patrols, local law enforcement, sniper teams doing overwatch, helicopters, drones - none of these things saw anything but a couple rednecks wearing MAGA hats saw him and pointed him out?
- For the 15-30 seconds prior to the "shooting", Trump is looking to his far right. Staring at something or someone, in an area where there probably are not a lot of people. Why wouldn't he have been looking at the much larger crowd directly in front of him, or at the teleprompters just to the side of directly forward? If his head is facing forward, we have either a miss or a dead nominee.
- We are supposed to believe a bullet whizzes by Trump's head, and he barely flinches. This is the guy who practically jumped out a window when a bald eagle near him flapped his wings.
- He reaches up to his ear, touches it, pulls his hand down and looks at it. No blood apparent. Trump himself said a bullet had "pierced" his ear. No sign of blood flying, no sign of blood on his hand after he touched it. Side note: I scratched my ear with my fingernail a couple weeks ago, and it took 20 minutes of direct pressure to stop the bleeding.
- He goes down behind podium with still no apparent blood. Secret Service agent pile on top of him.
- Moments later he stands back up, blood on his ear and face. But this is an active shooter situation, with no idea of whether there were 1 or 10 shooters. SS would have never let a protectee stand back up in such a scenario, exposing their head for a followup shot. They would have thrown their bodies over him, shielding him from harm and brought in a bullet proof blanket or shield before they tried to move him
- They move him to his SUV, still fully exposed and pumping his fist. He appears to be shouting "Fight" over and over again for some reason. Not what I would expect since there is still no possible way of knowing if it was a bullet, a bee sting, a firework that went off, or exactly what had happened. What are we supposed to be "fighting" against at this point, unless somehow he knew what actually happened in advance?
- But the blood on his ear and face are still the same. No more blood, nothing running on to his open shirt color. Almost as if what was there was placed there, rather than from an actual wound. Again, see idea above about how even small scratches to your head and face bleed profusely.
- Back to the shooter. First, he chose an AR rifle for a shot probably 200-300 yards long. As former military and Expert markmanship badge holder, I know an AR rifle is barely accurate on a full man sized target at that distance, certainly not my first choice to try to get a clean sniper-style shot on a difficult target at that distance. I'd leave my AR in the gun safe, and pull out one of the hunting rifles I have in there that are meant for that.
- Of course he's dead, so we can't ask him any questions.
Don't get me wrong - violence is wrong. The heated rhetoric of the political world has made it almost inevitable that something like this is going to happen. Some lone wolf nutbag is going to take matters into hi own hands.
I'm just suspicious at the convenience of such a dramatic event taking place just as the RNC convention is about to start, at a time when Trump is losing his ability to be the martyr and victim he always wants to play (he has pretty successfully quashed any hopes of the "with-hunt" trials impacting the election). My bet is we see him in pre-recorded videos with his head wrapped up like the mummy over the convention days, and then barely a bandaid after that because of his super-human strength and healing powers.
And it comes in the form of a magical bullet that barely grazes his ear (1 millimeter one direction and it misses him, 1 millimeter the other and we're picking up brain matter with a sponge).
Even Trump is not that lucky.
