According to Lt Gov Dan Patrick, Texans are fed up with increases is murder. According to him, it went up 37% between 2019 and 2020. I would have to agree.

However, Patrick and Abbott have been in office since 2014, so isn’t he saying they are doing a sh*tty job? I don’t see why anyone would re-elect anyone this incompetent.

But of course the GOP is counting on their voters not noticing this little fact.

AUSTIN — Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick’s campaign launched its first TV ad Tuesday as the November election nears.

Just to show what a political stunt this whole thing was, DeSantis of Florida flew 2 planes of immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard, not from Florida but from San Antonio TX. Most of the people say they were told they were going to Boston, where they would receive 3 months of shelter, help finding work and support as well as assistance applying for asylum. Instead they were dumped on an island that had ZERO notice and no support systems available.

Apparently these aren’t human beings they are abusing, they are just red meat to be fed to rabid MAGA supporters in hopes of shoring up white nationalist fervor before the election. DeSantis, Abbott and their ilk need to be soundly defeated in November to regain respect for our democracy.

Ron DeSantis defended his decision to fly migrants from Texas to Martha's Vineyard and said similar actions could follow.

So, on Saturday Joe Biden was watching a military campaign to take out the top Al Quada leader, who was one of the planners of the 9/11 attacks, embassy bombings and other terrorist activities that claimed thousands of American lives.

Donald Trump was hosting the Saudi funded LIV golf tournament 50 miles from Ground Zero, site of the worst terrorist massacre of Americans in history. Saudi citizens made up 15 of the 19 terrorists in the event, and it is widely believed that Saudi citizen Osama bin Laden was partially funded, or at least supported, by the Saudi government.

I guess “We will never forget” only means “…until the check clears”. And so much for America First.

Osama bin Laden’s deputy has been one of the most sought-after people by the U.S. for more than two decades.

The loud minority is attacking our democratic ideals. Everyone should be aware that 2 out of 3 Americans want Roe left intact. Here’s a poll that goes even further - 63% of American support abortion after r**e or in**st AT ANY TIME.

But the most telling one - many recent laws are patterned after Texas law, where anyone assisting an abortion can be sued. 80% of Americans OPPOSE these laws, including 69 percent of Republicans, 69 percent of evangelical Christians, and 58 percent of opponents of abortion.

How can 80% of the US population oppose this, but state legislatures all over the country are passing exactly these laws? Because legislators are no longer representing the American people, they are afraid of a tiny fraction who support un-popular minority opinions.

America needs to stop the petty bickering about which liberal candidate to support, because this kind of action splits the vote and is exactly what the minority need.

If 80% of the population would just get behind anyone besides these idiot MAGA morons, we could get back to being a respected part of the civilized world.

What’s my opinion on abortion? Yes, I have one. Everyone is entitled to one.

But like so many other things in our society now, the issue SHOULDN’T be if you agree or disagree with someone else. The real question is why do you think YOUR opinion should limit the options the someone else has?

It would fall to the states, which are sharply divided

I know it seems like this could be a very meaningless election compared with some other recent ones, but nothing less than Democracy is at stake. If people don’t show up this year and vote to KEEP elections safe, there may be no hope for future elections.

Just in case you missed the small story from a couple years ago, Trump LOST the election and there has been ZERO proof of election fraud of any kind that could have influenced it. None. In well over 60 cases (well over 100 judges), and after multiple appeals, EVERY case has either gone against them or been thrown out of court.

At least 23 people who deny the results of the 2020 presidential election are running for secretary of state in 19 states, according to a group that tracks these races.

I’m going to run around town putting ”Thanks For the price increase Greg Abbott” on all the expensive produce in stores, just like the MAGA-idiots did on the gas pumps (where prices continue to drop with no acknowledgement) for Joe Biden.

Abbott’s little hissy fit of extra inspections resulted in hundreds of millions of losses in spoiled produce alone. It is projected to cost Texas over $4b in GDP loss, almost $9b for the US. And found nothing - no drugs, no guns, no undocumented people. Nada. Zilch. Nothing.

Add that cost on to the fact that he continues to crow about the bus loads he sent to DC at Texas taxpayer expense, even though every single one of those who went WANTED to go but probably couldn’t afford it, and got a free ride and free meals along the way. It wasn’t a coincidence that the end of the ride in DC happened to be right by the Fox DC studios.

The rule, which Abbott has since rescinded, caused fierce backlash and snarled cross-border traffic for days.

If you’re an American, the vote in Texas is a travesty. If you’re a Republican, it was a success.

In 2020, about 0.8% of absentee ballots were rejected. In 2018, about 1.4%. In 2022, after the latest Texas attack on voting, it was 14%.

And it wasn’t even uniform. Of course not. In counties won by Trump it was about 10%. In heavily Democratic Harris county, it was over 18%. Of course it was.

When voters are denied the right to vote, we all lose.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas threw out mail votes at an abnormally high rate during the nation's first primary of 2022, rejecting nearly 23,000 ballots outright under tougher voting rules that are part of a broad campaign by Republicans to reshape American elections, according to an analysis by The ...

So I’m not exactly a Joe Biden fanboy, I think there were several better options available. But he is what we have. Contrast that with what might have been:

- The US has forged an international coalition that is crippling the Russian economy while keeping NATO intact and out of a direct war. Together they all continue to pressure Russia economically by removing most favored nation status. There is still an international humanitarian crises going on right now, but as bad as it is for Ukrainians it would be infinitely worse if it spread to multiple other European nations.

- Trump threatened several times to leave NATO, praised Putin’s invasion which certainly includes war crimes, and just yesterday said he would have threatened unilateral nuclear attacks on his friend Putin. And previously said we should violate international law by painting our very recognizable attack aircraft with the markings of China (a non-combatant country in this) and destroying Russian assets.

Yet a large number of Republicans want Trump back in charge. Our country still stands at a dangerous inflection point.

“Trump tells Hannity he had a "very strong" conversation with Putin in which he received some sort of assurance that Putin wouldn't invade Ukraine while he was in office https://t.co/Wun6DBThCm”

I am all for people’s right to an opinion, even one I disagree with. But having an opinion, voicing that opinion or even demonstrating your support are not the same as disrupting the lives of all those around you.

If you stand at the Ambassador Bridge and shout slogans, good for you. Hang banners across the street, yay democracy. I’ll even give you a March that passes through public roads, because you shouldn’t need a permit for free speech and I’ll overlook the temporary disruption that technically breaks the law. But holding a city or country hostage for weeks while you engage in long running disruptive behavior, I’m going to draw the line there.

Especially when your fringe opinion is not shared by an overwhelming number of your countrymen. He has, even 90% of Canadian truck drivers are already fully vaccinated.

It’s time for Texans to take back our state from a rabid minority that seems to hold all the political power. Old white Christian men are NOT the face of today’s Texas.

Facts:

In the last 10 years, people of color make up 95% of the new population coming to Texas. Texas was the fastest growing state in the country during this time.

Less than 19% of people (including only 31% of Republicans) think voter fraud occurs at a significant rate. But new laws make Texas one of the hardest to vote in.

Less than 1/3 of Texans want stronger abortion laws, while the WASP leaders in Austin have created the most restrictive abortion laws in the country.

To use a common phrase from the area, when it comes to representing their constituents it seems Texas leadership is “All hat and no cattle”.

Democrats have lost hope for Texas. I haven't.

Hypocrite much?

Yesterday, Gov Abbott of Texas tweet a MLK quote in a desperate attempt to offset the overall racist agenda his administration tries to advance. But 6 months ago he signed in to law a bill that removed any requirement for Texas schools to teach about MLK or the civil rights movement.

Can’t have it both ways, Greggie.

Once a group becomes a political organization, it should no longer enjoy to status of a “church”. Nothing points this out more clearly than the White Evangelical responses of the last couple years.

Christians profess a love of one another, and science has overwhelmingly proven masks and vaccines protect the lives of the more vulnerable. But 30% of evangelicals refuse to ever get vaccinated vs 16% of the general population. And in a demonstration of abject pastoral malpractice, regular church attendees are also twice as likely to hold this non-Christian position as less frequent churchgoers.

Only single digits worth of any of these object to the vaccine on religious grounds. They are listening to politicians, including many pastors from the pulpits, positioning this as an attack on the “real America” that their white European Christian minds have made up in spite of reality.

If they want to act in a secular manner, they should no longer claim the benefits of a religion.

The damage many White evangelicals have done to religion dwarfs the damage they have done to our politics.

Somebody needs to tell Fox News the usual thing is for their white supremisist viewers to burn a CROSS, not a Christmas tree.

On the bright side, a homeless man with a lighter has been taken in to custody. Or as Tucker Carlson will tell us, ANTIFA did it.

New York City police have taken a man into custody after he allegedly set a Christmas tree on fire outside of the Fox News Studios in Manhattan. NYPD spokesperson Detective Adam Navarro tells CNN the fire broke out just after midnight on December 8. CNN's Brynn Gingras reports.

What the actual F!! So I can put a couple bandaids in my pocket (I took first aid in high school 50 years ago), put on my Klan robes and head to a BLM rally with my bazooka. If someone looks at me with a plastic spoon or straw in their hand, I’m justified to destroy the entire city block.

What happened to not being able to plead self defense in a situation you instigated? Or the doctrine of proportional force - hitting someone with a skateboard is not the same as shooting them with a cartridge designed for battle.

White certainly is the best color when it comes to pleading self defense. And obviously theatric tears will win over idiots.

A jury has reached a verdict in the homicide case against Kyle Rittenhouse, a teenager who claimed he shot three men, two fatally, in self-defense during a 2020 protest.

Not sure what’s so hard to comprehend. Raising the debt ceiling is to pay for CURRENT debt. Trump and his Republican cronies added over $6.5trillion to that debt, the largest dollar increase for a presidential term in history. Now Republicans suddenly don’t want to pay the debt they ran up? Maybe I’ll call my credit card companies and tell them my bills actually belong to someone else, think that will work?

The infrastructure and social safety net bills might add FUTURE debt, which will be dealt with later if any of it actually passes.

2 separate issues. But that doesn’t play to the gaslighting messaging the Rs have to use, because their actual policies are deeply unpopular with the majority of Americans.

Republicans claim cap must be lifted to pay for Biden’s economic agenda – emblematic of party’s approach to once non-partisan issues

In his last dissent before retiring, Justice Thurgood Marshall made an observation that effectively sums up the Supreme Court and their likely landmark rulings on guns, abortion or any of the other assaults on common sense coming this term -

“Power, not reason, is the new currency of this court's decision making….

Neither the law nor the facts supporting” (insert conservative opinion not supported by the majority of Americans) “ underwent any change in the last four years. Only the personnel of this court did."

Not just the public. Even the Senate found all the conservative Justices wanting, by basically passing them on party line votes. The liberal members were passed by overwhelming majorities of Senators, meaning they actually won on merit rather than political support.

Also note 2 of the conservative justices had allegations of sexual assault raised in their hearings, before passing on party line votes.

Just so you know, here are the Justices, the vote count and what party the President was who nominated them.

Liberal
Stephen Breyer. 87-9. D
Elena Kagen 63-37 D
Sonia Sotomayor. 68-31 D

Centrist (usually)
John Roberts. 76-22. R

Conservative
Clarence Thomas. 52-38 R
Neil Gorsuch. 54-45. R
Brett Kavanaugh. 50-48. R
Amy Coney Barrett. 52-48. R
Samuel Alito. 58-42. R

With the court about to open one of its potentially most divisive terms in years, a debate rages over whether the nine justices are too political — and too powerful.

I will "agree to disagree" on opinions, like what is your favorite color or does pineapple belong on pizza.

I won't let you get away with denying facts or science.

As more and more data comes in, the science may get updated. But your opinion will never trump actual data.

I have come to the conclusion that there are 2 very different ideas of PATRIOTISM in the US today.

Type 1: The “One For All, All For One” type. Examples: WW2 GI who stormed the beaches of Normandy and Okinawa, Desert Storm vets who volunteered after 9/11, first responders who run towards danger when others run away, veterans who live their lives not expecting special treatment for just doing what they thought was right. Characteristics: selfless, caring, compassionate, considerate, decent.

Type 2: The “Don’t Tread On Me/Come And Take It” type. Examples: Proud Boys, 3%ers, Timothy McVeigh, most of the modern Republican party. Characteristics: believe only they have rights, wrap themselves in the flag at every opportunity, believe racism and xenophobia are admirable qualities, pretend to support police and military until those groups get in the way of their selfish pursuits, don’t care how pursuit of their “freedoms” impact anyone around them.

Side note: It’s my experience that the most virulent type 2 “patriots” have never served in uniform, and have zero tolerance for anyone who disagrees with them in any way. And type 1 patriots are too considerate and tolerant to call type 2 posers and pretenders out.

Funny - other than some anti-abortion fanatics, you don’t see a lot of big announcements from the Republican Party about the Texas law. Why? Because for them abortion is a talking point, a way to gin up a portion of their base. Of course, ultimately this particular law is about control and not healthcare, the fact is that Republicans can potentially see the end of one of their biggest boogie men they use to scare supporters with.

Overturning Roe would be catastrophic for all women and a major victory for anti-woman factions in the GOP, but it also really kills a huge part of a Republican platform plank that energizes the rubes who follow them. Hence the crickets.

Here’s your big chance to show me what an idiot I am. I get the political football that is abortion and women’s health, but I don’t understand WHAT this new law does, and HOW? It seems like it is flagrantly unconstitutional, and violates every premise of law.

I get that they think they’re clever by not having the government enforce it, because of Roe v Wade. So they say any citizen can file a civil suit, thereby making it financially impossible for abortion providers to move forward.

First, you can’t just sue someone and win because you don’t like what they did. You have to show you were harmed in some way by that. Unless someone can show me what harm having an abortion does to anyone else, the plantiff obviously would not have standing to sue.

Second, it is illegal to sue someone as harassment or to subdue someone. It’s called vexatious litigation, and lawyers can lose their licenses for it. How could any attempt to force someone who is NOT breaking any law to adhere to someone else’s moral beliefs end up not being vexatious?

Roe is still currently the law of the land, so abortion is legal. Or does this new Texas law somehow make abortion a crime, which means it is unconstitutional on its face (no state can create laws that are contrary to federal laws, that comes from the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution).

The law empowers private citizens to enforce the measure against anyone who helps a woman get an illegal abortion.

Quick note to all the people who have no concept of right or wrong - a religious exemption from vaccine mandates is not valid just because you don’t like the vaccine and go to church on Sunday. You must have a deeply held RELIGEOUS belief, and no major religion has a doctrine supporting your rejection of science. Even the Pope and Later Day Saints leaders say you have a moral obligation to protect the safety of those around you.

Why is this so difficult? There is no scientific, religeous, moral or ethical grounds for a normal healthy person to not be vaccinated against a deadly virus that has killed 650,000 people.

So a 5-term Republican legislator gone overseas and has decided he wants to transfer large amounts of cash into Afghanistan to try to privately secure the release of US citizens who don’t currently seem to be in immediate danger.

So basically this fu***ng bonehead has now effectively put a ransom bounty on EVERY American citizen still there, with every ISIS-K and roque Taliban agent trying to figure out the best way to finance their ongoing conflicts.

Yeah, Biden did a crappy job of pulling us out of the longest war in our history. And people in charge need to be held accountable.

But this kind of reckless behavior just made things WAY more dangerous for Americans there than anything the administration has done. He needs to be censured, removed from office and prosecuted for violation of the Logan Act.

Rep. Markwayne Mullin, a Republican from Oklahoma, attempted to launch a rogue mission into Afghanistan to rescue five American citizens, according to a jaw-dropping report in The Washington Post. Acting against the advice of the White House, the State Department, the Pentagon, Speaker Nancy Pelosi,...

So here is the current state of affairs in Texas-

- Schools can’t require masks or vaccines to keep kids safe because of a governor’s order

- Cities or towns can’t require masks or vaccines anywhere because of a governor’s order

- Cops can’t ask if that gun you are openly carrying in public is legal, even if you have no permit or training because of a new state law

- Voting access has been severely reduced for marginalized groups, including people of color and with disabilities because of a coming state law

- a woman can’t get a vital medical procedure without government approval, and anyone who helps her (even just driving her to an appointment) is subject to a $10,000 fine and prison because of a new state law

So much for small government and allowing citizens to control their destiny as locally as possible.

Also just pointing out that while a majority of Texans think the above things are wrong, nearly every Republican politician in the state decided they know better and are forcing their minority views on everyone.

One thing I have been noticing more and more about the difference in the way discussions are going lately. On hot topics, like masks, vaccines, abortion, voting and many others. I mean other than the obvious fact that one side is right and the other is just wrong.

People who argue on behalf of masks or vaccines et al tend to say "studies show..." or "polls say ..." or "the science says ..."

People who argue against these things tend to say "I think ..." or "people say ...." or "I heard somewhere that ..."

It's as if a total inability to cite your sources means that it is impossible to disprove your argument. But, unfortunately that is not how any of this works.

Let's face it - if you can't show us your data you are just another as***le with an opinion. And while you are certainly entitled to one, it is actually meaningless and data don't care what you think..

Because everyone has one, and DATA > opinion • Millions of unique designs by independent artists. Find your thing.
