I’m always the last.
The last to have breakfast,
To get dressed,
To brush my teeth.

The last to leave the house,
To buy something for myself,
To sit down for a moment.

The last to take a shower,
To turn off the lights,
To fall asleep each night.

But I’m also the first.

The first they run to when they’re excited,
The first they cry for when they’re upset,
The first they come to for everything.

I may come last because they come first,
But I also come first because I am their first,
And it’s nice to remember that some days.

This is what it means to be a mother. You are seen, known, cherished, treasured, needed, appreciated, and so dearly loved. Keep being last because you know you are their first!
