Immortalize Lam Adesina With Victory In 2027 - Tinubu Charges Oyo APC Stakeholders

President Ahmed Bola Tinubu has enjoined the rank and file of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Oyo State to immortalize late former Governor Lamidi Onaolapo Adesina by winning the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Tinubu who spoke through the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu made the charge on Monday at the maiden edition of colloquium organized in rememberance of late former progressives leader in Ibadan, Oyo State.

At the lecture hosted by Hon. Adedapo Lam-Adesina (a son of the late former Governor and former House of Representatives member), the President implored all the aggrieved individuals and divides in the party to put behind them the ugly past, close the ranks and work together as a family to reclaim the control of the state government in the next poll.

He avowed that the best immortalization for the late governor is to return the state to the progress fold saying such would redeem the hope of the people in the political capital of Yoruba race and smoothen his administration working relationship with the government of the state.

"Lam Adesina stood for high democratic ideals that underpin the democratic system of government. Ideals that are essential for ensuring that power is held by the people, either directly or through elected representatives. Ideals of effective participation in governance with citizens making their views known on policy decisions. Consequently, to honour his memory; the Progressives in Oyo state must come together as one. You all must fight the fight and win the battle come 2027, Oyo state must return to the progressive fold."

The guest lecturer of the event themed "Improving Nigeria's Governance: Lessons From The Past, Strategies For The Future" Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, who was represented by Sen. Shuaib Salisu emphasised the need for Nigerians to rediscover the value system which would encourage citizens to be more responsible, morally upright and diligent as against the culture of indiscipline, avarice and corruption.

The show witnessed the convergence of hundreds of associates, supporters and family members of the late former governor who died in 2012. Alh. Adesina was a member of the House of Representatives (1979-1983), Chairman of the Oyo state chapter of the defunct National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), celebrated newspaper columnist and an accomplished educationist who participated in the struggle which ended military rule in Nigeria in 1999.

Some of the dignitaries received at the event by the widow of late former Governor Alhaja Sarat Adeola Adesina included Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Senator Teslim Folarin, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, Chief Iyiola Oladokun, Chief Alake Adeyemo, APC State Chairman, Alhaji Olayide Abas, Olubadan of Ibadan land, Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Alh. Fatai Ibikunle, Apostle Sunday Popoola, Sen. Femi Lanlehin, Barrister Bayo Sh*ttu, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan, Elder Wole Oyelese, Hon. Aderemi Oseni, Sen. Adesoji Akanbi, Sen. Oyo 2027: Seyi Makinde & Succession Directionless

As the momentums toward the 2027 electioneerings thicken, the race for the Oyo Agodi Government House is not devoid of its traditional guessing, scouting and permutations especially when the sitting Governor is on his second term in office.

Regardless of the next electoral aspiration of Governor Seyi Makinde, a new personality either from his political camp, party or an opposition will certainly succeed him as the new Chief Executive Governor of the state come 2027.

Taking to the breaking second term jinx which was historically done by late former Governor Isiaka Ajimobi as the 7th democratic Governor of the state in the 2015 transition, no Governor is yet to successfully see out his tenure and install his party's candidate as successor. And, the looking of Governor Makinde's leadership and style of governance in the last five years in office have raised a lot of concerns among his party's faithfuls.

The brazen stifling and impoverishment of party members from the grassroots is practically taking toll on his image as many leaders see his gesture as deliberate wickedness and calculated ploy to personalize the party. Many believe that Engineer Seyi Makinde they knew is not the Governor Seyi Makinde that rooted and supported to the seat of power.

Ranging from the appointments, disbursement of benefits and other gestures believed to be of government in power to the party's people all are being lamented to be the ghost of the expected individuals as many differ that People's Democratic Party (PDP) government do not run an administration of austerity as long known with the party at the central even during the troubled governorship of former Governor Rashidi Ladoja not to talk of former Governor Christopher Akala's.

The next gubernatorial scheming is fast resuming noticeable heights and it is glaringly difficult for people; political and apolitical to presume the collection of personalities; career politicians and technocrats in the PDP or known with the party whose dossier can sway Governor Makinde to queue behind for the continuation of his job. Although the Governor has said it in a forum that he would not support any aspirant above 55 years. The statement many regarded as a gaffe on the part of Governor.

Unlike the various circles and teams assembled by late former Governor Ajimobi where many notable and accomplished individuals from the commissioners, local government chairmen and assistants could be competently touted as worthy successors to carry on with his administration's strides, it is saddening that no Governor Makinde's appointees is popular in their respective portfolios (offices) to be appraised ahead of the grassroots prominence for the exalted role of Governor in the 2027 gubernatorial race.
