SOMETHING SUPERNATURAL IS HAPPENING IN CHICAGO!
Written By Jesse Littleton (Lead singer of Gran Bel Fisher)
Recently the rock world had a significant loss. Not only “Prince” our beloved but from a smaller scene echoing through the streets of Chicago down through the halls of Cincinnati. Bass player from the Chicago band Bassel & The Supernaturals Mason Cormie passed away suddenly. This quote was issued on their social media on April 12th at 4:21pm
"We are all in shock to learn of the tragic passing of our beloved bassist, Mason Cormie. Our thoughts are with his family & friends during an incredibly difficult time for us all. Not only was Mason an unbelievably talented bassist, but an astounding human being all-around. His personality was infectious, his jokes hilarious, and his warmth was greater than the sun's... We lost an unforgettable soul, and our world will never quite be the same without him.”
- Bassel & The Supernaturals
I recently had the pleasure of meeting Mason along with Bassel and the rest of the supernaturals at a Cincinnati, Ohio gig at the legendary Stanley's Pub where we shared the bill with our band “Gran Bel Fisher” and cincy locals Intro Signal. “Bassel & The Supernaturals” headlined the evening bringing some crazy rock, r&b, soul, funk, push right to the face in a way I have never seen and heard young musicians do before. This made me think “what the hell is going on in Chicago?!” From Bassel to another Chicago voice Jennifer Hall they are bringing the thunder! This sound is enormous!
Mason Cormie on bass in particular had everyone’s eyes on him. Closing his eyes amplifying a certain confidence that truly only comes from a seasoned player. Feel, is what he gave to the crowd that night at Stanley’s in Cincinnati. A True technician of the bottom and groove. He captivated us for an evening and stuck enough in my head and heart to want to take some time to sit down and write about this guy and forever help scar his impact on music and those around him while he was here. It’s crazy that we can be here captivating an audience and those around us then the next day be gone. This is untimely I know for this band that is growing into something bigger. We wish you the best and tons of healing to help fill those super large shoes Mason left behind. So glad I had the chance to see a true legend of a bass player “Mason Cormie” and our deepest condolences from everyone at Dead Records Online and all the boys of GBF. It was a pleasure to share the stage and a night of music to remember. Our hearts go out to the family, friends, fans and of course “The Supernaturals.”
