Established in 2005, Transcending Obscurity operates not just as a webzine but also a massive record label with over 50 signed bands and a respected PR company. The focus, as the name suggests, is to promote deserving bands

the world over and the entity is rapidly growing to be a powerful and global force in the line. With physical as well as digital distribution tie-ups in North America and Europe, and with the label's recent foray into multiple formats, it is poised to be one of the most prominent and fastest growing labels worldwide. It's bringing the world closer, so to speak, having its base in Asia but also providing a home to many bands from the Western part of the world. Abyssalis imbibe various elements of contemporary death metal to concoct music that is at once technical, groovy, and riff-driven. Their previous EP "The Mountain" drew a good deal of attention for doing just that and they've taken things up a notch on their latest release. The songs are carefully structured - they are fast but not rushing through all the time, just so that they can embed themselves in the minds of the listeners. The riffs are catchy and fleshed out, ensuring that they remain memorable, and the delivery is brisk yet impactful. Mac Smith, fresh from his stint in Eschaton, once again does a stellar job doing vocals matching the tone and mood of the music, varying his deep growls with acidic rasps especially in moments of the blackened influences seeping through. "Adaptation" is a solid, enjoyable EP and coupled with their previous material as bonus, the definitive release serves as a fine introduction for this unheralded band that is poised for bigger things in the future.

OFFICIAL RELEASE DAY: Byonoisegenerator - Subnormal Dives (Jazzgrind/Mathgrind)

There are few bands that genuinely excite me these days and I'm glad to say that Byonoisegenerator are one of them. It's been years since I first signed them (on the basis of their previous album) and I can only say that it's been worth the wait. Without relying on any gimmick, they've truly created something that can indeed be called "jazzgrind" and it's great that they haven't diluted any of the elements for the sake of accessibility or wider appeal. Thanks to everyone who sat down with this one and to the band for continuing their madness and for trusting us with its release.

After astounding tech death releases from Fleshbore and Eschaton on the label this year, there's the eagerly anticipated debut full length from Unaligned to look forward to. Once again boasting of a celebrated lineup featuring members of Withered Throne, Demon King, Fleshbore and others, Unaligned offer a blackened and comparatively more atmospheric take on the technical death metal style. Meticulously written and impeccably executed, their music has an epic flair which goes hand-in-hand with their undulating pattern showcasing the brilliant contrast between the faster, scathing parts and the smoother, melodic breaks. The alternating vocal delivery here too is fitting without being overpowering in any way. The songs are able to traverse multiple realms and subjects while remaining focused and impactful. There's a compelling, pulsating rhythm throughout, keeping things brisk and intense while also retaining a sense of groove. Sharp, taut and yet catchy, Unaligned have come up with an exemplary blackened tech death album in "A Form Beyond", and it only gets better with more listens.

Here's what the band has to say about it -
All of us in Unaligned are very passionate about taking the art and the visual aspects of our vision very seriously. We were well into the writing of “A Form Beyond” when we discovered the amazing art piece Adam Burke licensed to us. Originally we wanted to title the album “Death Entwines Us All”, another track on the album, but later opted for the current title. The moment we saw Burke’s art piece, we instantly knew it was the perfect representation for what we were working on and instantly contacted him. It was almost as if it were destiny. To us the artwork completely embodies what the album represents to us in a spiritual and metaphysical form. Further, mesmerizingly bonding and tethering the listener with the art and music.
