Ozzy Osbourne - Diary of a Madman - 1981

My high school copy of this still sounds damn good.

I was lucky enough to see Ozzy three times, once solo and twice on the final tour of Black Sabbath.

The first time I saw Ozzy was on August 3, 1986 at the Hampton Coliseum with Metallica opening. I remember the ridiculous rumor going around that Ozzy passed out a basket of puppies before every concert and he wouldn’t play until they ended up back on stage as…umm… ex-puppies. My friend and I joked about how dumb that rumor was.

Metallica was playing with a fill-in guitarist for James Heyfield because he had a broken arm. His replacement sat in a chair on stage while playing. Hetfield was frustrated and it showed. While they were playing their last song, Ozzy’s roadies (and maybe Ozzy?) ran out onstage and started beaking down Metallica’s equipment. It was hilarious.

It was super hot that August night and Ozzy had a little person dressed in medieval garb bringing him buckets of water to throw on the crowd to try and cool down the fans up front. Ozzy slipped on some of the spilled water and fell and cracked a rib, but finished the show.

He was a hell of a performer and gave it his all on the stage until the very end. Rock in Peace 🤘❤️🤘
