Literacy is a valuable and important human right. Yet there are still some who don't have access to books.

That makes these statistics even sadder, of those who do know how to read and have easy access to books:

33% of high school graduates never read another book for the rest of their lives.

42% of college students never read another book after they graduate.

And a whopping 70% of adults haven’t been in a bookstore in the last five years.

If you fall into one of those categories, please visit a bookstore, choose a great book, and take the time to read it.

If you're saving your pennies, visit your local library and rent a good book.

And please find a way to help someone else who would love to read.

You can participate by reading to a child and instilling a love of reading and books, you can help someone who is struggling with reading and writing, or you can donate to an organization that promotes literacy, like the World Literacy Foundation.

Literacy is a powerful and treasured lifetime gift.

These words remind us of a fundamental truth about pursuing our dreams and facing challenges: the real victory lies in daring to step into the arena, not in simply watching from the sidelines.

And while the critics may offer their opinions from the safety of their own comfort zones, their voices cannot overshadow the courage of those who choose to act.

The importance of this courage cannot be overstated. By stepping into the arena, we not only pursue our own dreams but also inspire others to do the same. Our actions become a testament to the belief that it is better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all.

In the end, it is not the critics who will remember our efforts, but those who saw us take that brave step forward.
