Imagine being surrounded by this from every direction.

HYPERDOME’s HYPERSPEED show at The Dome in Sydney turned the room into a 360° light experience, with lasers programmed to move alongside every beat.

In this moment, the system was time-coded to Coone’s “4 By 4 Beats,” making the lighting feel less like something happening around the music and more like another part of the performance itself.

Every hit, movement and burst lines up with the track — and once you notice it, it’s almost impossible to look away.

Example released “Changed the Way You Kiss Me” that year, with production from Michael Woods. The darker electronic production paired with Example’s vocals became one of the defining sounds of his career and a major record from that period of UK dance music.

The track went all the way to No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart, spending two weeks at the top and becoming Example’s first UK No. 1 single.

Hearing him perform it today carries a completely different kind of nostalgia. Back then, it was simply one of those tracks you heard everywhere. Nobody was thinking about how much those first few seconds would bring back 15 years later.

Before “Move Your Body” became one of the records most closely associated with early Chicago house, Marshall Jefferson and vocalist Curtis McClain knew each other from working at the Chicago Post Office.

Released in 1986 as Marshall Jefferson’s “Move Your Body (The House Music Anthem),” the record’s driving piano became hugely influential during a period when Chicago house was still developing its identity.

Before the record reached audiences around the world, copies circulated among Chicago DJs. Ron Hardy was among those who championed it at the Music Box, helping establish it on the city’s dance floors.

Nearly four decades later, its influence is still easy to hear. In 2025, Billboard placed “Move Your Body” at No. 1 on its list of the 50 greatest house songs of all time.

This is Farsha Mountain Lounge in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. 🇪🇬

Built down the side of a cliff overlooking the Red Sea, Farsha is made up of different terraces filled with lanterns, antiques, colorful cushions and small seating areas tucked into the mountainside.

The experience changes completely as the sun goes down. What starts as a panoramic Red Sea viewpoint gradually turns into a glowing maze of lights across the cliff.

People come for the sunset, music, drinks and sh**ha, but the setting itself is what has made Farsha one of Sharm El Sheikh’s most recognizable spots.

There are electronic tracks you remember, and then there are tracks that immediately bring back a feeling.

Reflekt’s “Need to Feel Loved,” featuring Delline Bass, first became a club hit in 2005, reaching No. 1 on the UK Dance Chart and No. 14 on the UK Singles Chart.

Years later, Adam K & Soha gave the record another life with their Vocal Mix. Released as part of the track’s 2009 revival, their version slowed everything into a deep, hypnotic progression that became a favorite among progressive house fans.

Part of that unmistakable atmosphere goes even further back: the original record draws from Thomas Newman’s “Ghosts,” from the Road to Perdition soundtrack.

All these years later, that combination of Delline Bass’s vocal and the slowly unfolding melody can still stop you in your tracks.

Some songs age. This one just keeps finding new listeners.

Imagine hearing this bassline coming through a club sound system for the first time in the early 2000s.

Shakedown’s “At Night” arrived in 2001 and became a major club record, with its 2002 UK release eventually climbing to No. 6 on the singles chart. More than two decades later, those opening seconds remain instantly recognizable.

During her recent Mixmag Lab set, La La brought the classic back to the dance floor, and judging by the reaction, its age hasn’t taken much away from it.

That’s the beauty of certain house records. A new generation can hear them decades later and the groove still works exactly as intended.

How many tracks did you recognize before reading this?

During his Tomorrowland Brasil Mainstage set in 2024, Axwell dropped a mashup that packed four instantly recognizable records into the same festival moment: “Laktos,” “You Got The Love,” “Calling (Lose My Mind)” and “Somebody That I Used To Know.”

The mashup actually goes back to the Axwell Λ Ingrosso era and brings together tracks and vocals from completely different corners of dance and pop music.

But hearing “Calling” alongside those familiar vocals in front of a Tomorrowland crowd makes this one especially nostalgic for anyone who lived through the progressive house era.

Imagine listening to David Guetta so much that eventually David Guetta recognizes you.

That’s what happened to Jimmy during Guetta’s night at [UNVRS] in Ibiza, when he caught the DJ’s attention from the crowd and got a reaction he probably won’t forget anytime soon.

Jimmy says he ranks as the #2 David Guetta listener worldwide on Deezer, which makes the interaction even better. All those hours of streaming apparently paid off.

Fourteen years ago, Swedish House Mafia released a song that would follow an entire generation of electronic music fans.

“Don’t You Worry Child,” featuring John Martin, arrived on September 14, 2012, at a particularly emotional point in the trio’s story. Swedish House Mafia had already announced that they were going their separate ways, making the track their final single before their original hiatus.

The song went on to reach No. 1 in the UK, earn a Grammy nomination and become Swedish House Mafia’s biggest crossover hit. Fourteen years later, it has passed two billion Spotify streams.

But numbers don’t really explain why it lasted. Put it on at a festival today and thousands of people who grew up during completely different periods of electronic music can still sing the same chorus together.

14 years later and it still gives you that feeling. Who remembers where they were when they first heard it?
