Hearing loss is often invisible, but the stigma surrounding it can have very real consequences. 👂

At the 2025 Research Symposium hosted by the Hearing Loss Association of America, researchers and advocates explored how stigma impacts people living with hearing loss. Negative assumptions and fear of judgment can lead many people to delay seeking care or using hearing technology that could improve their quality of life.

By studying hearing loss stigma, researchers hope to better measure its impact and identify ways to reduce barriers to care. When we talk openly about hearing loss and share real experiences, we help turn something invisible into something that can be understood and addressed.

Awareness leads to action, and action leads to better support for people living with hearing loss.
