Masii Ward aspirant Robert Sikuku has outlined education as the cornerstone of his leadership agenda, pledging to prioritize support for needy students and expand opportunities for young people if elected.

Sikuku says his manifesto places strong emphasis on ensuring that children from vulnerable backgrounds are not locked out of education due to poverty.

He revealed that he is committed to paying school fees for bright but needy students across Masii Ward, while also working to secure international sponsorship programs to expose learners to global education opportunities.

“Education is my top agenda. No child in Masii Ward should drop out of school because of lack of fees. Through partnerships and sponsorships, including international programs, we can change the future of our children,” Sikuku said.

In a major boost to access to learning, the aspirant disclosed that he has already supplied 40 schools within Masii Ward with laptops, a move aimed at promoting digital literacy and preparing learners for a technology-driven world.

Beyond education, Sikuku noted that his commitment to the community extends to humanitarian support for the most vulnerable.

He has supported needy families through food donations and supplied essentials such as blankets, mattresses, bed sheets, and clothing to help improve their living conditions.

He further revealed that he is in the process of building a school for the needy at Kithangaini Location in Masii Ward, a project he says will provide a safe and supportive learning environment for children who lack access to basic education.

“I am also in the process of building a school for the needy in Kithangani Location in Masii Ward,” he added.

Residents and local leaders have praised Sikuku’s hands-on approach, saying his actions demonstrate leadership beyond words.

Since the festive season is over,Motorists should now exercise extra caution on the roads as schools are set to reopen next week, a period traditionally marked by increased traffic and heightened road safety risks.

With parents, guardians, school buses, and public service vehicles ferrying learners back to schools, major highways and urban roads are expected to experience heavy movement.

Traffic authorities and road safety agencies have warned that the reopening of schools often leads to congestion, hurried driving, and increased interaction between vehicles and pedestrians, especially children.

Drivers are reminded to slow down near schools, residential areas, and bus stops, and to strictly observe traffic rules.

Parents and guardians have also been encouraged to ensure children use safe crossing points and to avoid overcrowding in public transport.

School transport operators have been advised to maintain their vehicles properly and adhere to speed limits to safeguard learners.

Road safety advocates note that most accidents during school opening periods are preventable if motorists remain alert, patient, and disciplined.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has urged motorists to exercise extra caution on the roads as schools prepare to reopen, warning that the period is often marked by increased traffic and heightened safety risks for children.

In a press statement, NTSA noted that thousands of learners will be returning to school in the coming days, leading to a surge in movement by private vehicles, public transport, and school transport services.

SIX DEAD,SEVEN CRITICALLY INJURED IN A GRISLY ACCIDENT NEAR KONZA TECHNOPOLIS CITY

Six people died on the spot in a fatal road traffic accident that involved a bus and a matatu along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway in Machakos County.
The Friday night grisly crash near the Konza Technopolis City also left seven passengers critically injured and were rushed to the Machakos Level Five referral hospital for treatment.
Mukaa Sub County OCPD Hussein Abduba confirmed the incident that invloled a Taamidi bus and Naekana Nissan matatu,adding the bodies of the dead passengers from the fateful matatu were also removed to the Machakos Level Five hospital mortuary as investigations into the incident got underway.
The police boss said the preliminary investigation showed that the matatu, which from the Nairobi direction was overtaking a lorry, before crashing head on with the bus, which was heading to Nairobi direction.
Abduba has urged to drivers,especially those of public service vehicles, to be extra careful while driving on the busy highway to avoid unnecessary road carnage, pointing that the lives the people they carried were of great importance.
Emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene of the crash from the nearby Kyumbi and Muumandu towns to help in rescue and evacuation operations following the accident.
On learning of fatal accident,Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and urged motorists to exercise caution to avert deaths of innocent people, especially with schools reopening for term one from next week.

Masinga Central Ward MCA Joshua Mwonga has declared his interest to vie for the Masinga constituency parliamentary seat in the 2027 general election.
Mwonga, who has represented the Ward for three consecutive terms, will face the incumbent Joshua Mwalyo and others interested in the seat.
Speaking during the burial of 78 years old mzee Paul Musyoka Mutisya at Munandani village,the outspoken MCA declared that he has what it takes to take Masinga constituency to the next level if elected as MP.
"I have served as MCA for Masinga Central Ward for the past ten years and now serving another five years to total fifteen,gaining the necessary leadership skills to move to the next leve of leadership," said Mwonga.
He warned elected leaders from ukambani region allied to the ruling regime to prepare to go home as the community would reject them at the ballot for abandoning them for what he termed their personal interests.
Mwonga credited himself as a go getter, enumerating the many projects he had initiated in addition to his social and capital involvement.

LANG'ATA MP CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE SUSPENSION OF CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES AFTER SOUTH C BUILDING COLLAPSE

Youthful Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has called for the immediate and total suspension of all construction activities in South C and Nairobi West wards following a tragic building collapse that occurred early Friday morning.

The incident happened at approximately 5:00 a.m. along Muhoho Road in South C, Lang’ata Constituency, where a 16-storey building under construction collapsed, trapping several people beneath the rubble.

Emergency response teams were swiftly deployed to the scene as rescue operations commenced.

Describing the incident as “tragic and unacceptable,” the MP expressed deep concern over the safety of those affected, noting that the collapse is a devastating way to begin the new year.

He said the primary focus remains the rescue of those trapped and ensuring that no lives are lost.

“We unequivocally demand the immediate and total suspension of all construction activities in South C and Nairobi West wards,” Jalang’o said in a statement. “This halt must remain in effect until full approvals, safety audits, and compliance verifications are conducted by all relevant authorities.”

The legislator condemned what he termed as the continued disregard for construction regulations and public safety, warning that failure to act decisively would put more lives at risk.

He urged national and county authorities responsible for urban planning, construction approvals, and safety inspections to move with speed, transparency, and accountability as investigations begin.

Jalang’o also appealed for calm among affected families and residents, assuring them of national solidarity during the difficult moment. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their loved ones. We hope for the safe rescue of everyone involved,” he said.

The collapse has once again raised serious questions about enforcement of building standards in Nairobi, particularly in high-density residential areas, as Kenyans await the outcome of investigations into the cause of the disaster.
NCA
The National Construction Authority (NCA) has confirmed the collapse of a multi-storey building under construction.

In a press statement issued by the Authority, the building—described as a proposed mixed-use development—collapsed along Muhoho Avenue near South C Shopping Centre and Nairobi South Hospital in Lang’ata Sub-County.

According to the NCA, the project was registered with the Authority on November 8, 2023.

However, at the time of the collapse, the building was non-compliant with required construction standards and regulations.

“The NCA reiterates its commitment to safeguarding public safety, ensuring accountability within the construction industry, and upholding the highest standards of professionalism and compliance across all construction projects nationwide,” the statement read.

EMBAKASI EAST LEGISLATOR BABU OWINO STATEMENT ON THE SOUTH C BUILDING COLLAPSE
Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino has expressed deep shock and profound sadness following the collapse of a 16-storey building that was under construction in South C, Nairobi County.

The tragic incident has plunged Nairobi residents into anguish, with emergency response teams working tirelessly to rescue possible survivors.

At the time of issuing this statement, emergency responders—including the Kenya Red Cross, the National Disaster Management Unit, and the National Police Service—were still on the ground carrying out search and rescue operations.

“This tragedy, coming just days into the New Year, is a painful reminder of the devastating consequences of weak oversight, poor enforcement of regulations, and suspected corruption within Nairobi City County,” the MP stated.

Owino noted with grave concern reports indicating that the building had initially been approved for 12 floors, but an additional four floors were allegedly constructed without authorization.

Further allegations suggest that these irregular approvals may have been facilitated through bribes amounting to KSh 25 million paid to senior county officials, including the Governor.

If proven, these claims point to deep-seated institutional corruption where public safety is sacrificed for profit and political convenience.

The MP strongly condemned:
-Any form of corruption or bribery that undermines building safety and erodes public trust.
-Approval of construction projects that do not fully comply with technical, safety, and legal requirements.
-A culture of impunity in which county officials, developers, and built-environment professionals evade accountability.
Babu Owino issued the following demands:

-A full, transparent, and independent investigation into the building collapse, covering all approvals, inspections, and oversight conducted at both county and national levels.

-Immediate suspension of approvals for undocumented or suspicious developments until comprehensive national safety audits and compliance checks are completed.

-Accountability and prosecution of all individuals found to have enabled unsafe construction, including public officials, private developers, and professionals involved.

Stronger enforcement mechanisms within Nairobi City County to ensure that all developments meet the highest safety standards, regardless of political or financial influence.

“Lives cannot be rebuilt. But systems can,” the MP emphasized. “Let this disaster be the turning point that drives the long-overdue reforms Nairobi needs, so that we never again mourn deaths that could have been prevented.”

Now, the youth has made a public appeal to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, asking to be considered for an opportunity within Kenya’s security services.
