BJP Opposes Open Sale of Meat in Sambalpur
Demands Strict Implementation of High Court Guidelines

Sambalpur, Sept 11: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly opposed the open sale of meat on major roads of Sambalpur city. A BJP delegation today met Sambalpur Municipal Corporation Commissioner Rehan Khetri at his office, discussed the issue in detail, and submitted a memorandum demanding immediate action.

According to the memorandum, several meat shops operate along the stretch from Sen Park Square to Zilla School Square in Sambalpur. In these shops, goat and chicken meat are openly displayed, which the party described as completely illegal. The road is frequented by school children, young students, and the general public. Displaying slaughtered goats by hanging their carcasses, the memorandum noted, has a disturbing psychological impact on children as well as on people who follow a vegetarian lifestyle.

The BJP demanded that the Municipal Corporation issue notices to such shopkeepers and ensure that meat is stored in a way that is not visible to the public. They also urged the authorities to strictly enforce the guidelines and conditions laid down by the Hon’ble High Court for meat shops.

Commissioner Rehan Khetri assured the delegation that prompt action would be taken on their demands.

The delegation was led by BJP District General Secretary Anil Behera and included Sushant Purohit, Sameer Ranjan Babu, Ajit Behera, Somitra Jyoti, Alok Panda, and Manas Ranjan Baksi, among others.
