FCE-Ididep Honours Senator Aniekan Bassey with Excellence Award

The Federal College of Education (FCE), Ididep, Ibiono Ibom, on Thursday, June 4, 2026, conferred an Award of Excellence on Aniekan Bassey, the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, during its maiden conference.

The Award was presented in recognition of Senator Bassey’s contributions to education, leadership, and grassroots development across the senatorial district.

Representing the Senator at the event was his Campaign Director General, Obong Godwin Awah, Ph.D., who received the award on his behalf.

In his remarks, Dr. Awah expressed appreciation to the institution for the honour, noting that the recognition would further inspire Senator Bassey’s commitment to advancing educational development and youth empowerment in the region.

The maiden conference drew stakeholders from the education sector, academia, and the wider community, highlighting the college’s growing role in promoting academic excellence and societal impact.

2027: URUAN RALLIES BEHIND GOVERNOR UMO ENO AS APC’S UNIFYING CHOICE

The Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, Senator Aniekan Bassey, has commended members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their massive turnout during the gubernatorial nomination exercise.

Senator Bassey made this known on Thursday in Ekim Enen, Southern Uruan Ward II, where he led stakeholders and members of the APC to nominate Governor Eno as the sole candidate of the party for the 2027 general election.

He maintained that the exercise, which recorded an unprecedented turnout of enthusiastic party faithful, further solidified Governor Eno's position as the party’s unifying force across the state.

Senator Bassey said the process was conducted peacefully, transparently, and in strict compliance with established electoral guidelines, under the watchful presence of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

"The outcome of today's exercise is a clear foretaste of the overwhelming victory awaiting all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections," he stressed.

Speaking further, he said “Governor Umo Eno has redefined governance by bringing it closer to the people through impactful projects and economically viable initiatives. The impressive turnout is a direct reflection of the people’s trust and satisfaction."

Meanwhile, a total of 1,280 votes was announced by the Returning Officer, Mr. Ignatius Okon.

SENATOR ANIEKAN BASSEY CELEBRATES ENOBONG SAM'S OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC FEAT

Senator Aniekan Bassey of the Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District has congratulated Miss Enobong Sam on her exceptional academic achievement following her graduation with a First Class from the Nigerian Law School.

Enobong, a beneficiary of Senator Bassey's tuition-support, who had earlier emerged as the Best Female Law Graduate in 2023 from the University of Uyo with a Second Class Upper Division (2.1), has once again demonstrated excellence by finishing top of her class at the Law School.

In his congratulatory message, the Senator described her accomplishment as a testament to diligence, resilience, and intellectual brilliance.

He noted that her success serves as an inspiration to young Nigerians, particularly students from Akwa Ibom State, to pursue academic excellence with determination.

He further commended her consistency in maintaining high standards throughout her academic journey and expressed confidence that she will make meaningful contributions to the legal profession and society at large.

The Senator wished Enobong Sam continued success in her future endeavours, urging her to remain a shining example of hard work and excellence.

INAUGURATION: SENATOR BASSEY URGES AKPTTA ON ICT-DRIVEN GROWTH IN A’IBOM

The Senator representing the Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District in the Senate, Senator Aniekan Bassey, has reaffirmed his commitment to the advancement of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector in the state.

Senator Bassey made this known on Friday at the Conference Hall of Watbridge Hotels, Uyo, during the swearing-in and inauguration ceremony of the newly elected executives of the Akwa Ibom Phone Dealers and Telecommunication Technicians Association (AKPTTA).

The event, themed “Empowering Akwa Ibom’s Workforce: From Basic Repairs to Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship – Igniting a New Era of Excellence and Prosperity,” brought together stakeholders in the telecommunication and technology ecosystem across the state.

In his goodwill message, Senator Bassey, who was represented by his Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Mr. Darlington Udobong, described the formation of AKPTTA as timely and aligned with the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno.

He encouraged members of the association to remain committed to excellence and innovation, emphasizing the need to sustain the vision of the state’s founding leaders, particularly Obong Victor Attah, who championed the idea of positioning Akwa Ibom as Africa’s Silicon Valley through the Ibom Science Park initiative.

The Senator further stressed that the importance of ICT in driving economic growth, job creation, and technological advancement cannot be overemphasized, urging the association to play a partnering role in shaping a digitally empowered workforce in the state.

He tasked the Michael Oton-led executive to live up to the responsibility reposed on them by members of AKPTTA.

SENATOR BASSEY ADVOCATES STRONGER OVERSIGHT, INSTITUTIONAL INTEGRITY AT ANTI-CORRUPTION RETREAT ON ELECTRICITY SECTOR

Senator Aniekan Bassey, representing Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, has called for stronger legislative oversight and enhanced institutional integrity as critical measures in combating corruption in Nigeria’s electricity sector.

The Senator made this known during a two-day retreat themed “Combating Corruption in the Electricity Sector: Strengthening Legislative Oversight and Regulatory Integrity,” held from April 13–14, 2026.

The retreat was organized by the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, led by Emmanuel Udende, in collaboration with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The event attracted key stakeholders, including Kelvin Chukwu, Titus Zam, and the NERC Deputy General Manager (Legal, Licensing and Compliance), Hauwa Yakubu.

In his contribution, Senator Bassey emphasized that sustainable reform in the electricity sector extends beyond the enactment of robust legislation.

According to him, effective reform must be driven by transparent enforcement mechanisms and strong institutional frameworks.

He underscored the importance of closer collaboration between the legislature and regulatory bodies such as NERC to address systemic gaps that enable unethical practices within the sector.

The lawmaker further stressed that legislative oversight must be proactive rather than reactive, noting that preventive systems are essential to safeguarding public funds, protecting consumers, and restoring investor confidence.

“Tackling corruption in the electricity sector requires a culture of accountability at all levels, supported by clear policies, independent monitoring, and active citizen engagement,” he stated.

Senator Bassey reaffirmed his commitment to supporting legislative initiatives that promote transparency, efficiency, and fairness across Nigeria’s electricity supply chain.
