With compelling characters, a well-crafted narrative, and a captivating performance, the MarSU delegation stood out in the Short and Sweet Play Competition during the 9th STRASUC-CAF 2025, held at Romblon State University on October 16, 2025.

Their entry, โ€œ๐‘บ๐’‚ ๐‘ฏ๐’–๐’Œ๐’‚๐’š ๐’๐’ˆ ๐‘ฒ๐’๐’“๐’๐’๐’‚โ€, written and directed by Jurhyss Arsen Natividad, with Chyn Ann Mascareรฑas as Technical Director, delivered a powerful onstage portrayal through the performances of cast members Mark Melaya, Jasmine Monponbanua, Ashley Mangubat, and John Paulo Montera.

The team was guided by their dedicated coaches, Asst. Prof. Jholey Rose Leaรฑo-Lancion (Head Coach) and Dr. Ma. Jessica Semilla (Assistant Coach), whose mentorship played a vital role in the teamโ€™s success.

Their play was all about greed, power, and justice. Within the story, the โ€œkoronaโ€ isn't just about "palamutiโ€, but also symbol a symbol of power filled with greed and deceit. In the story Lazaro represent the people who are willing to sacrifice their dignity and pride for power. This story also connects to our traditional โ€œputongโ€ ritual dance, a ritual dance performed to welcomed or praise someone. But in the play instead of praise and respect, it became a mask to conceal someone's sin.

The play delivers a powerful message: in the end, no matter how radiant the crown may appear, when worn by a heart blinded by greed, it becomes the very instrument of oneโ€™s downfall.

The entire MarSU community extends its warmest congratulations to the team for their outstanding performance and for proudly representing the university on the regional stage.

As the world spins faster with innovation and change, Jomari Portento, Marinduque State Universityโ€™s (MarSU) proud representative for the STRASUC Festival 2025 King, carries with him a message rooted in timeless values, the preservation of culture and identity.

During the Q&A portion, Portento shared his advocacy with sincerity and passion, emphasizing the role of culture as the foundation of who we are as a people.

โ€œI advocate for cultural preservation. I firmly believe that our culture keeps our identity alive in this rapidly evolving world, it connects our past and present, guiding us to move forward to a better and meaningful future. I wholeheartedly believe that as we preserve culture and arts, we are also preserving our soul,โ€ he expressed.

With poise and conviction, Portento called upon the masses to take pride in the rich cultural tapestry of the Southern Tagalog region.

โ€œTherefore, I encourage everyone to embrace the beauty of the diverse culture that we have in the Southern Tagalog region so that we can build a stronger and united community,โ€ he added.

His words reflected the heart of a true advocate, someone who sees culture not as a relic of the past, but as a living force that gives meaning to progress. Portento stood on the ground of not just bearing the sash of MarSU but carrying with it the spirit of a people who remain in their roots while walking boldly into the future.

Graceful, confident, and deeply grounded in her values, Querubin Gonzales, Marinduque State Universityโ€™s (MarSU) delegate for the STRASUC Festival 2025 Queen, stands as a proud voice for young Filipinos striving to honor their heritage amid a modernizing world.

When asked how todayโ€™s youth can preserve traditional values and customs while embracing progress, Gonzales delivered a response, bridging the past and the present.

โ€œAs a young Filipina, I continuously practice the values and traditions of our culture as Filipinos, and I stand here in front of you to be a role model to every individual, to continue to preserve and sustain our culture and identity as Filipinos, not only for today, but also for the future generation,โ€ she said.

Her words remind us that preserving culture begins with mindfulness, carrying our traditions not only in festivals or ceremonies but in everyday lives that reflect respect, humility, and solidarityโ€”the true mark of a Filipino.

In the grandeur of her participation, Gonzales brings with her MarSUโ€™s pride and purpose to showcase a generation that does not shy away from progress but instead moves forward with heritage in hand. Her presence at STRASUC reflects a vision of youth empowerment where beauty, intellect, and cultural awareness walk hand in hand.
