In 1989, during Liberia’s deadly civil war that brought down Samuel Doe, one Nigerian man Mr Emmanuel Chukwu saved over 1,000 fellow Nigerians from sure death.
Mr Chukwu was a successful businessman in Liberia. Chukwu, then was one of Liberia’s wealthiest foreign businessmen with investments worth approximately $89.405 million He had powerful friends, access to government, and was doing well. But when war broke out, things changed fast. Rebel leader Charles Taylor declared Nigeria an enemy, and announced that for every Liberian killed, five Nigerians would be killed in revenge.
Chukwu acted fast. He used his own money, contacts and even handed over his brand new Mercedes Benz to secure the release of captured Nigerians. When the Nigerian government had no evacuation plan, it was Chukwu who used his own two cargo ships to save Nigerians. Many had nowhere else to run. Chukwu told them to go straight to his ships.
Over one thousand people, including women and children, were loaded onto the ships. He even bribed Taylor’s coast guards just so they could sail out of Liberia safely.

But in the process, he lost everything. His imported goods were left behind. His ships were gone. His money in Nigerian banks disappeared as the banks collapsed. Worst of all, his younger brother was captured and killed during the war.
When he returned to Nigeria with his family, he had just 600 dollars to his name.

He hoped that the Nigerian government would honour their promise to help him resettle. At first, things looked hopeful. General Babangida approved compensation. But decades passed and nothing was ever done.
Chukwu visited Obasanjo, followed up during Goodluck Jonathan’s time, and even got support from Dora Akunyili before she passed. Yet, still nothing.

Today, Mr Chukwu lives between Lagos and Suleja in hardship, waiting for help that never came. His wife, who stood by him all these years, has now gone totally blind. She lost her sight because they couldn't afford to complete her treatment. One kind Nigerian, Hope Uzodinma (now governor of Imo), once stepped in to help. But it was too late.
“I just want to see again,” his wife once said.

Mr Chukwu still believes one day Nigeria will remember what he did, and keep the promise made to him over 30 years ago.

This man saved lives when our government was silent. He deserves honour, support, and justice.

Press Release: Ogbonna Ogbojionu was properly convicted for crimes he committed

Abeokuta, Ogun State – [9 July 2025] –

My Office has observed recent viral publications regarding Ogbonna Ogbojionu, who was recently released from prison after many years. These reports allege that Ogbonna was wrongfully imprisoned for over two decades for merely buying a stolen generator and that the real thief – one Segun Ajibade – was pardoned in 2016, leaving Ogbonna to suffer for nine more years. This narrative is entirely false.

Ogbonna was convicted on 14 January 2003 by the Ogun State High Court and sentenced to death. However, Ogbonna's death sentence was converted to a life sentence in June 2021 by Governor Dapo Abiodun CON, in exercise of the prerogative of mercy. The prerogative of mercy is a constitutional power vested in the President and State Governors, based on advice from the Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy (ACPM). The Attorney-General of Ogun State is the Chairman of the Ogun State ACPM. Ogbonna was a beneficiary of the most recent prerogative of mercy exercised by the Governor to commemorate Democracy Day 2025.

Ogbonna did not merely buy a stolen generator. Indeed, there is no evidence till date, that Ogbonna ever bought the generator in issue. The true facts are that around 10:00 pm on 3 October 2000, a gang of armed robbers attacked ELF petrol station along Abeokuta-Lagos road and stole a 10 KVA Lister generator. The armed robbers overpowered and detained the two guards at the fuel station. They hit one guard – Yusuf Akanni – with an iron rod on his head and on his leg, breaking his femur. They hit the second guard – Moses Bankole – on the head with an iron rod as well, then they bound both guards. Moses Bankole died on the spot, while bound, while Ogbonna and the other armed robbers made away with the Lister generator. Yusuf Akanni, the surviving guard, was the first prosecution witness for Ogun State. Ogbonna was a generator technician so he was the robber who specifically loosened the generator from where it was secured in ELF filling station.

At 2:30 am a few days later, around Toll Gate, Ota, the Police randomly stopped a vehicle which was loaded with firewood and pure water bags that had been used to conceal a big generator. That generator turned out to be the same generator stolen from ELF. Ogbonna was in the vehicle alongside the vehicle's driver (Sunday Oloyede) and one Kolawole Oladeji. When confronted by the Police, none of them could produce a receipt for the generator, so the Police decided to impound he vehicle and arrest its occupants. As the Police were planning to move the vehicle to the station, the driver and Kolawole Oladeji zoomed off with the vehicle, leaving Ogbonna behind. Ogbonna was detained in one of the cells at Toll Gate but before morning, Ogbonna escaped by breaking the asbestos in the cell's ceiling.

However, by that time, the Police had already recorded the vehicle's registration number. Investigations at the Alausa licensing office disclosed the owner of the vehicle who presented his four drivers to the Police. Sunday Oloyede turned out to be one of the truck owner's drivers – and he was arrested. He led the Police to Kolawole Oladeji and Segun Ajibade. The three then led the police to Ogbonna who was arrested but by then had already sold the generator. Ogbonna led the Police to the person he sold the generator to, one Ali Rihan, who released the generator back to the Police and testified against Ogbonna and the others, as the eleventh prosecution witness.

Based on these events, these defendants, including Ogbonna, confessed to how they had planned the whole robbery. Ogbonna made two confessional statements in two different Police stations – they were admitted as Exhibits K and B, without objection as to coercion. The prosecution called eleven witnesses in all, but Ogbonna and his co-defendants did not call any witnesses. Instead, they chose to rest their case on that of the prosecution. Under the law, this meant that they agreed with the facts narrated with the prosecution but did not believe it was enough to convict them. However, the court thought otherwise and convicted them.

These facts completely dispel all the lies that Ogbonna and his packagers are currently circulating. Ogbonna participated in the armed robbery. Ogbonna participated in transporting the generator by cover of night, hidden under pure water bags and firewood – nobody carrying property they believe to be theirs will hide it in that manner. Ogbonna fled lawful detention. Ogbonna, also, after having seen the driver run away from the Police with the generator, still proceeded to reunite with that same driver and still sell the generator without regard to the driver's suspicious conduct. Ogbonna was an integral part of the armed robbery.

If Ogbonna truly owned the generator, he would have presented a receipt or any evidence of purchase to the Police at the checkpoint or at his trial. Ogbonna knew the value and status of a receipt, because he issued Ali Rihan a receipt after selling the generator to Ali. If Ogbonna was truly tortured in detention to confess, what is his explanation for not objecting to the confessional statement at trial? How does he explain his legal strategy of calling no witnesses? Why did he not bring any witnesses who knew that he owned the generator, who knew his lawful source of living, or who sold him the generator? The truth is that all these did not exist.

Ogbonna rested his case on the prosecution’s case. He did not call any witness and he did not tender any evidence. All that he is saying today was available to be said at his trial and he voluntarily said nothing. As Justice Oputa said in the 1988 case of N M Ali & Amor. v. The State, "if the prosecution rests and refuses to put an accused person into the witness box to dispose to his own version of the events, then... The court will not be expected to speculate on what the accused might have said if he testified". Ogbonna could have provided evidence to defend himself and he did not. Without that evidence, the Judge was right to convict him, and my Office was correct – even obligated – to prosecute him.

The prerogative of mercy is not a right. Nobody is entitled to it. And it is not automatically extended to convicts merely because they have been in prison for long periods. The prerogative is granted entirely at the Governor's discretion, considering the nature of the convict's offence, the convict's assessed tendency to reoffend, the convict's ability to reintegrate into society, and the convict's reformation demonstrated most importantly by his remorse and regret. If, as the viral reports now claim, Segun Ajibade has truly led a quiet life since his release, it likely suggests genuine remorse for his crimes and his gratitude for his freedom. This is the exact opposite of Ogbonna's intransigence today and could explain why Ogbonna was not considered for release when Segun was.

Ogbonna's crime hobbled a business, terrorised Akanni Yusuf, and killed Moses Bankole. These victims or their relations remain today and attempts to sanitise Ogbonna's conduct with falsehoods does fresh injustice to the victims. Those who, in a misguided quest for justice, are recreating Ogbonna as a victim will do well to remember Moses Bankole – the true and irredeemable victim of Ogbonna's crime. If Ogbonna is truly reformed, he should silently and gratefully enjoy his freedom and pursue honest pursuits. Presently, his honesty is highly doubtful, and the world is hereby notified.

Why It Sucks to Be Born as a Meerkat?

Born cute. Born doomed.
You’re barely the size of a potato… and already in the middle of a power struggle.

Remember Game of Thrones?
Now imagine it with more betrayal, more dead puppies, and way more plot twist.
Because this isn’t fantasy. This is the real kingdom and the queen doesn’t sit on a throne.
She rules with milk and m*rder.

In the world of meerkats. They live in groups called mobs, and at the top is the queen: the alpha female. Not a wise elder. Not a gentle matriarch. She's a full-blown dictator with blood on her paws.

If you're born female, congrats — you're already competition.
And competition doesn't live long.

Only the queen gets to mate. And when she does, she picks one male — her personal breeder — and the rest better stay in line. If another female dares to have pups? The queen finds them, kills them, and eats them. Sometimes, while the mother watches. Sometimes, when the mother is her own daughter.

You heard that right. Meerkats commit grandchild-cannibalism. It’s not rare. It’s how the hierarchy survives.

And what happens to the rebellious mom? She's banished.
Which, in the Kalahari desert, basically means death by dehydration and hawk.
Unless she begs.

And if she begs hard enough, the queen might offer mercy — under one condition:
She becomes a wet nurse. Yep. Forced to feed the queen’s babies with her own milk. Raising her siblings. After watching her own litter get eaten. That's not a plot twist. That’s biology.

But maybe you’re born male? Don’t celebrate yet.

Your job is babysitting, food scouting, border patrolling, and being cannon fodder in gang fights. Yep — meerkat mobs brawl like medieval street gangs. Males will fight, bleed, and sometimes die clashing with rival mobs. And if the queen catches her mate cheating?
She exiles him too.

And remember — if the queen dies or is overthrown?
The new queen slaughters all her pups and starts fresh with her own bloodline.
This isn’t the Circle of Life. This is a soap opera with body counts.

Around 1 in 5 meerkat deaths are caused by other meerkats.

That makes them one of the most homicidal mammals on Earth.
More dangerous to each other than predators. More violent than any desert threat.

They might look cute, but they rule with a vengeance.

So if you’re ever born as a meerkat?
Just hope you’re not born female… and definitely not second best.

🔎 This story is based on peer-reviewed zoological research, including behavioral ecology studies of meerkat colonies in Southern Africa. No fiction. No sugarcoating. Just nature — raw and real.

“I didn’t leave my husband because I stopped loving him. I left because I was starting to forget how to love myself.

People assume divôrce means failure. No! sometimes, it’s survival.

For years, I kept quiet, smiling for the camera, wearing my ring like everything was okay. But behind the scenes, I was disappearing, emotionally, mentally.

I gave the best of me to a man who eventually stopped seeing me. Conversations turned to silence. Respect turned to tension. And the home I tried so hard to build started to feel like a place I didn’t belong.

Walking away wasn’t easy. It wasn’t dramatic. It was silent, deliberate. I didn’t need to announce it, I just started choosing myself again.

I stopped posting “Chioma Akpotha” and went back to being “Chioma Chukwuka” not because I hate my past, but because I’m reclaiming my name, my peace, and my power.

I didn’t lose a marriage. I found myself.

Scientists have observed octopuses punching fish, and sometimes it seems to happen for no clear reason other than what might be interpreted as spite. According to Science Alert, in a fascinating study published in Ecology (2020), scientists observed octopuses teaming up with fish to hunt in coral reefs. These unlikely alliances are usually cooperative: the octopus flushes prey from crevices, while the fish chase down anything that escapes. But every so often, the octopus does something unexpected, it punches its fish partner.

With a swift jab of an arm, the octopus will strike a fish mid-hunt. Sometimes it’s strategic, maybe the fish was getting too close to the prize or disrupting the hunt. But in other cases, as marine biologist Eduardo Sampaio and his team noted, the punch seemed to serve no clear purpose. No food was at stake. No interference was happening. The octopus just punched. Researchers call this “active displacement,” a way for the octopus to assert control or perhaps vent frustration....

Why I Postponed My Resumption- Senator Natasha

The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has explained her decision to shelve her planned resumption to the Senate for legislative duties.

According to her, she did so based on legal advice and respect for procedures following a court ruling nullifying her suspension.

She also announced her intention to await the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment before making her next move.

The federal lawmaker said this during an interview she granted to the African Independent Television (AIT).

In defence of her activities outside the chambers while her suspension lasted, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan noted that she spent most of her time reaching out to constituents through the provision of democratic dividends in line with her avowed commitment to several constituency projects as well as making progress on her flagship Gold Reserve Bill.

She also listed her recent achievements to include the installation of solar-powered streetlights, groundbreaking for smart markets across local governments, and the distribution of hundreds of laptops to students at Meseta Memorial College among others.

Following the earlier announcement of her intention to resume legislative duties on Tuesday, there was tension within and around the National Assembly complex.

An unusually high presence of security personnel, along with operational vehicles, was noticed while vehicles moving in and out of the complex were thoroughly searched.

While the court described her suspension as excessive and unconstitutional, a legal opinion dated July 5, reportedly issued by Senate counsel Paul Daudu, SAN, argued that the ruling lacked an enforceable directive compelling the Senate to reinstate her.

Akpoti-Uduaghan said, “I remained active throughout. These are personal initiatives—I was hoping to finish the gold bill and move on to others like lithium and red mineral legislation. I can’t simply hand them over to others.”

Speaking against her continued exclusion from performing her legislative functions, she said, “By keeping me out of the chambers, the Senate is not just silencing Kogi Central—it’s denying Nigerian women and children representation. We are only three female senators now, down from eight.”

The Senator reiterated her commitment and determination to continue with her legislative functions and commitment to the development of not only Kogi Central but Nigeria as a whole.

While she remains hopeful of a timely return to the Red Chamber, Akpoti-Uduaghan vowed to continue delivering on her mandate, inside or outside the Senate.

“I believe in the judiciary, I’m not giving up,” she added.

After 26 Years on Death Row for Buying a Stolen Generator, Ogbonna Igbojionu Reunites With His Mother

Ogbonna Igbojionu, a native of Abia State, has finally regained his freedom after spending 26 years on death row at Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison in Lagos. He was just 22 years old in 1999 when he was arrested and convicted for unknowingly purchasing a stolen generator — a crime that led to a death sentence.

Now 48, Ogbonna stepped out of prison a free man after a long and harrowing legal ordeal, during which he consistently maintained his innocence. His case, like many others, highlights deep flaws in Nigeria’s justice system — particularly in how poor and unconnected individuals can be handed severe punishments without adequate legal representation.

Tears flowed as Ogbonna reunited with his ageing mother, who had prayed and waited for decades to see her son again. Their emotional embrace marked a bittersweet moment — a mixture of joy, pain, and lost years.

Human rights groups and legal advocates who helped secure his release are now calling for urgent reform of the justice system, especially around the use of capital punishment for non-violent crimes and the treatment of suspects who cannot afford proper legal counsel.

ABUJA PRIMARY SCHOOLS SHUT DOWN: A NATIONAL DISGRACE IN THE HEART OF NIGERIA

Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja, the symbol of our unity and pride, is currently experiencing a silent tragedy, the total collapse of public primary education.

Since March 2025, over 250,000 school children across all six Area Councils have been forced to stay at home. Why? Because public primary school teachers are on strike, and rightly so.

THE REALITY: CHILDREN LOCKED OUT, FUTURE SHUT DOWN
400+ public primary schools closed

250,000+ pupils idle

Over 3 months without learning

600+ instructional hours lost per child

Students have missed crucial exams and learning milestones

While our children’s future is being silently destroyed, the authorities remain silent or indifferent.

WHY ARE TEACHERS ON STRIKE?
FCT teachers are demanding the payment of their legitimate entitlements, including:

A ₦70,000 minimum wage adjustment

Unpaid promotion arrears

Leave allowances and basic teaching materials

Gratuities and pensions owed to retired teachers

These are rights, not favours. How do we expect teachers to perform miracles when they can’t feed their families?

MINISTER WIKE’S SPENDING SPREE VS. PUBLIC EDUCATION
While public schools are shut:

The Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, is busy flagging off multi-billion naira infrastructure projects, many of which are non-essential.

Roads are being repainted, bridges are being built, estates are being upgraded, yet children sit at home without chalk, books, or classrooms.

A report revealed that over ₦280 billion was spent between 2007 and 2016 on FCT education. Where did the money go?

Worse still, contracts worth billions for “school renovations” have been awarded without any visible results. Leaking roofs, classrooms without windows, toilets that don’t work, that’s the condition of most FCT public schools today.

A COUNTRY THAT NEGLECTS EDUCATION IS DOOMED TO FAIL
Key Statistic Status
Literacy Rate (Youth) 70–75% struggle with reading
WAEC Performance (2024) Less than 49% passed English & Maths
Teacher Shortage 25% understaffed in public schools
Youth Unemployment (2025) Over 60%
National Education Budget 7.3% (UNESCO minimum is 15–20%)

We cannot continue to expect miracles in a country where the future of children is treated as an afterthought. We are building skyscrapers on a weak, crumbling foundation.

THIS IS NOT JUST A STRIKE, IT’S A NATIONAL SHAME.

Nigeria is failing its children, starting from the top.

When the Federal Capital Territory with all the wealth, visibility, and influence cannot fund basic primary education, what message are we sending to the rest of the country?

If teachers cannot be paid in Abuja, what happens to rural schools in Zamfara, Bayelsa, or Cross River?

LET'S BE CLEAR: INFRASTRUCTURE WITHOUT EDUCATION IS A DEAD INVESTMENT
You can build the tallest bridges and widest roads, but if the minds of the next generation are left undeveloped, those bridges will lead to nowhere.

No child should ever be denied education because of government incompetence, corruption, or misplaced priorities.

WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE IMMEDIATELY
Immediate reopening of all public primary schools in Abuja

Full payment of teacher arrears, allowances, and promotion dues

Audit and public disclosure of education spending in FCT

Raise education funding to at least 15% of the FCT budget

Hold public officials accountable for every unfulfilled education promise

A CALL TO ACTION
If you're reading this, don’t scroll past in silence.

Education is not a luxury, it is a right.
A nation that closes its schools is opening the gates to poverty, crime, and collapse.
