💧 The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) has reaffirmed its commitment to providing sustainable water and sanitation services for all South Africans! 🇿🇦

Speaking at the Commission on Policy Review and Legislative Reforms, Dr Risimati Mathye highlighted the department’s goal to close service gaps, strengthen accountability, and ensure that every household — urban and rural — has access to safe, reliable water.

Key plans include:
✅ Professionalising local government to boost service delivery
✅ Establishing an independent water regulator
✅ Implementing the National Water Action Plan
✅ Launching the National Water Resources Infrastructure Agency (NWRIA) by 2026
✅ Strengthening Catchment Management Agencies for better regional governance

Water is not just a basic need — it’s a human right and the heartbeat of our economy. 💦

When your family says every water brand tastes different but you say “Water is water” 💧😅 — maybe it’s time to listen to them! 👂

Not all water is the same — and here’s why 👇

✅ Mineral Content: Each water source contains different levels of minerals like calcium, magnesium, and sodium. These minerals affect both the taste and texture — some waters taste crisp and fresh, others more metallic or even slightly salty.

✅ pH Levels: The acidity or alkalinity of water can change how it feels and tastes. Neutral or slightly alkaline water usually tastes smoother and cleaner.

✅ Filtration & Treatment: Purified, spring, or borehole water all go through different processes. Chlorine and other chemicals used in municipal water treatment can give a sharp or “pool-like” taste, while natural spring or filtered borehole water tends to be fresher and softer.

✅ Source Quality: The origin matters! Groundwater, mountain springs, and municipal supplies all have unique compositions that influence both taste and quality.

So next time you take a sip and someone says, “This one’s better!” — they might just be right. 😉💦

💧 South Africa is losing nearly 2 trillion litres of water every year due to leaks, aging infrastructure, and contamination – and our communities are feeling it through constant water-shedding. 🚱 But there’s hope for a healthier water future! 🌍✨

New innovations like HDPE and PP piping, water storage solutions, and smarter farming methods (like drip irrigation) are helping save water, protect our drinking supply, and ensure long-term sustainability. 🌱💦 With durable, safe, and eco-friendly materials, we can reduce water loss, keep our rivers clean, and secure water for generations to come. 🙌

Let’s work together to protect one of our most precious resources – every drop counts! 💙💧

Innovative plastic solutions, such as HDPE piping and storage, can safeguard South Africa's water future, ensuring cleaner and more sustainable access for all.

When someone says:
💬 "I don’t like the taste of water."
Me:
👀 "Well, maybe it’s not you… Maybe it’s your water quality!" 💧😂Maybe
Because let’s be real — good quality water has a clean, crisp, refreshing taste! 🥶✨

💧 South Africa’s water crisis is real – from ageing infrastructure to pollution, millions are still without safe water. But there’s hope! 🌍

At the recent Citizen Science Water Symposium, experts showed how ordinary people can become part of the solution. By testing and monitoring local water sources, communities can:
🔹 Detect problems faster
🔹 Fill gaps in official monitoring
🔹 Create awareness and responsibility
🔹 Even build jobs and skills in water management

The challenge? Making sure data is reliable, tools are user-friendly, and results feed into national systems. With the right support, citizen science could be a game-changer for our future water security. 🚰💪 https://dfa.co.za/news/2025-09-18-citizen-science-could-hold-the-key-to-solving-south-africas-water-crisis/

South Africa’s water crisis, worsened by ageing infrastructure, leaks, pollution, and poor monitoring, was the focus of the recent Citizen Science Water Symposium hosted by IIE MSA.

💧 Water quality affects every part of our lives — from the water we drink to the food we grow and even the health of our environment. 🌍 Read the full article for more information: https://microbenotes.com/water-quality-categories-importance-assessment/

There are 4 categories of water:
✅ Potable (safe to drink)
👌 Palatable (tastes good, minor harmless impurities)
⚠️ Contaminated (contains pollutants, unsafe)
🦠 Infected (full of harmful microbes)

That’s why regular monitoring of physical, chemical, and biological factors like pH, oxygen levels, and bacteria is so important. Fresh water is limited, and protecting it is vital for our future! 💙

The physical, chemical, and biological properties of water as regards set standards are called water quality. Water quality is usually used to set the standards through reference obtained through the water treatment process.

🚰 South Africa is facing a water treatment crisis that can’t be ignored! 💧

Only 14% of our water systems meet safe quality standards, while more than 60% of wastewater plants are in high or critical risk — polluting rivers and dams. In provinces like Mpumalanga and the Northern Cape, many taps fail safety tests, posing real health risks.

The crisis is made worse by ageing infrastructure, pollution, and a shortage of skilled operators. But there is hope — urgent action like decentralised treatment systems, better training, home filtration solutions, and public-private partnerships can turn the tide.

Water is life — and it’s time for scalable action to protect every drop! 🌍

Ageing infrastructure, rising pollution levels and increasing demand are converging to create a national emergency. Clean, safe water is critical not just for public health but for economic development and social stability.

Ever been at a friend’s house and the tap water tastes a little… suspicious? 💧👀 Not all water is the same, and being conscious of water quality is important for your health.

Here’s how you can spot when something’s off:
👅 Weird taste – metallic, salty, or bitter
👃 Strong smell – chlorine, musty, or chemical-like
👀 Strange look – cloudy, discoloured, or with particles

What you can do instead:
✅ Use a home water filter
✅ Keep bottled or filtered water handy
✅ Boil in emergencies to kill bacteria
✅ Consider sustainable options like borehole water with proper testing

Stay safe, stay hydrated, and know what’s in your glass! 💧

🌊💧 Protecting Our Water, Securing Our Future
The Department of Water and Sanitation has launched the Integrated Water Quality Management Strategy to address South Africa's pressing water quality challenges. These include pollution from industrial and agricultural activities, urban runoff, and acid mine drainage. The strategy outlines a collaborative, government-wide approach to ensure our water resources are safe, sustainable, and fit for use by all.

Key priorities include tackling eutrophication, salinisation, and sedimentation, while promoting research into emerging pollutants like industrial chemicals and nanoparticles. The strategy emphasizes the importance of partnerships across government, the private sector, and civil society to achieve its goals.

This initiative is vital for safeguarding public health, supporting economic development, and preserving our ecosystems. Together, we can ensure that South Africa's water remains a resource for all, forever.
