On today’s episode of Jazzed, we're going to honor two visionaries in music and, while not jazz artists, both created music that the world has embraced over the past 60 years. Both Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys and Sly Stone of Sly & The Family Stone passed away recently at the age of 82. Their contributions to music cannot be overstated. To honor them, I’ve compiled jazz interpretations of their songs that I think you’ll really enjoy. I hope you can tune in live or stream afterward on MixCloud...and be sure and spread the word!

On today’s episode of Jazzed, we're going to spotlight the careers of two classic jazz baritone saxophonists: Leo Parker and Pepper Adams. Leo Parker started out in 1944 playing with both the Coleman Hawkins and Billy Eckstine Orchestras, producing the first bebop recordings. Pepper Adams worked with trumpeters Donald Byrd and Chet Baker, and repeatedly won Downbeat awards for his playing starting in 1957. We'll hear music today from both of these superb baritone saxophonists. I hope you can tune in live or stream afterward on MixCloud...and be sure and spread the word!

On today’s episode of Jazzed, our Spotlight Artist of the Week is trombonist Slide Hampton. Born in 1932, Hampton is one of the few left-handed trombone players. At the age of 12 Slide played in his family's jazz band, The Duke Hampton Band. By 1952, at the age of 20, he was performing at Carnegie Hall. On today's show, we'll hear music from a few of his many solo albums, as well as selections from sessions he recorded as a sideman on albums by Dexter Gordon, Maynard Ferguson, Hank Mobley, McCoy Tyner and Sam Jones. I hope you can tune in live or stream afterward on MixCloud...and be sure and spread the word!

On today’s episode of Jazzed, our Spotlight Artist of the Week, on the occasion of his 85th birthday last Friday, is pianist Herbie Hancock (seen here in a photo I took backstage in 1979). With such a vast history of recorded music throughout his career, it's impossible to cover it in an hour. So, we'll be focusing on the first two years of his career, from 1962, when he recorded his debut album for Blue Note, to 1964. I hope you can tune in live or stream afterward on MixCloud...and be sure and spread the word!
