Today on Jazzed is another edition of First Monday Live. The first Monday of each month is devoted to live jazz concert recordings. On today's show, we're going to pay tribute to jazz drummer, pianist and composer Jack DeJohnette, who passed away Oct 26th at the age of 83. In this first part of my 3-part tribute, we'll hear live music with his band New Direction, as well as his work in concert with singer Betty Carter, trumpeter Miles Davis, pianist Bill Evans and more. Throughout his career, Jackson performed live in more than 30 countries and recorded in more than 3000 sessions on more than 500 albums. For today's tribute, we'll hear from his session work with saxophonist David Sanborn, as well as guitarists Earl Klugh, Pat Metheny, Al Di Meola, Lee Ritenour and George Benson. Today on Jazzed is another edition of First Monday Live. The first Monday of each month is devoted to live, mostly unreleased jazz concert recordings.

Last week we celebrated the 83rd birthday of French violinist and composer Jean-Luc Ponty. On this edition of First Monday Live, I thought I would continue that celebration by playing some of the live music in Ponty’s extensive discography. We'll hear live music from his collaborations with guitarist Al Di Meola, composer and guitarist Frank Zappa, and pianist Chick Corea with his band Return to Forever. The recipient of 9 Grammy awards, Eddie Palmieri was instrumental in creating the soundtrack of Latin jazz in the US. Today on Jazzed is another edition of First Monday Live. The first Monday of each month is devoted to live, mostly unreleased jazz concert recordings.

Today we're going to recognize the annual International Jazz Day, which occurs each April 30th. The 2025 edition featured a concert in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Participating musicians included pianists Herbie Hancock, Danilo Perez and Kenny Barron; guitarists John McLaughlin and John Pizzarelli; singer Dee Dee Bridgewater and so many more.
