The Tesla boycotts are real. And they’re getting serious.

After months of uncertainty, the verdict is in on the backlash to Elon Musk’s increasingly expensive interventions in politics — and it’s not good for Musk. After years of dominating the U.S. electric vehicle market, Tesla faces threats at home and abroad: Its stock is dropping, sales are plummeting in Europe and the U.S., and both sales and prices for used Teslas are dropping.

Now, a new threat looms on the horizon: whether Republicans in Congress will cut the Inflation Reduction Act, which directed hundreds of billions in subsidies to electric vehicle makers, including Tesla.

Donald Trump has long attacked judges who cross him. Now he’s expanding his sights.

In recent weeks, the president has taken increasing aim at the country’s largest law firms, issuing a flurry of executive orders intended to limit or threaten the companies’ livelihoods. The orders, which range from revoking security clearances, blocking access to federal buildings, rescinding government contracts, or requesting data on hiring practices and diversity initiatives, have been met with alarm by many legal experts and even judges. One judge overseeing a case involving one firm called Trump’s executive order “chilling.”

Just as notable, however, is law firms’ reaction: While several are pursuing action in the courts, many more, including several of the largest firms in the country, have struck deals with the administration — including firms employing former Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff and Democratic super lawyer Neal Katyal. The trend is alarming to historians. Swipe to learn more.
