We are excited to be at the Bergthaler Mennonite Church in Martensville, Sk this Friday, July 4!

It is a free outdoor gospel music evening with hotdogs available by donation from 5:30-7:00 pm. The concert begins at 7:00 pm.

This week, Manitobans for the first time are enjoying the music of The Giesbrecht Family! This is their first visit to Manitoba. They are from LaCrete, Alberta.
(Now if you're at least a half century old, you may remember another Giesbrecht Family that sang at seniors' homes and missions conferences in Southern Manitoba - that was my parents, my siblings and me). While this group shares the same name, and we're probably distantly related, they (parents Jeremiah and Melanie and their 10) have incredible talent and sweet harmony (something that was not necessarily abundant in our family).
We had the privilege of touring The Giesbrecht Family around Winnipeg today and one of the things I wanted to do was have them sing something a capella in Union Station. I hoped it wouldn't get us in trouble. :)
Well, God was definitely ahead of me on this one (as He always is).
There was a Canada Day display in the middle of Union Station where people were not only permitted to sing in the amazing acoustics, they were ASKED to do so in a competition. Winner gets $15,000 in VIA Rail vouchers and they'll be featured on CBC on Canada Day!
So, my long lost relatives seized the opportunity and the hosts were definitely impressed.
For me, I don't know if I've ever been so choked up upon hearing the national anthem.
(Side note: They told me after that this was the first time they had ever sung "O Canada" together!)
