Modern Tbilisi

Most of the traditional businesses here have a single owner, one decision-maker, one dominant personality. The company is often an extension of the founder, always an oligarch.

Then startups started to grow with a completely different model. Multiple founders, shared ownership, investors. A structure imported from Silicon Valley more than inherited from the Caucasus. For a while, it felt like a new business culture was emerging. Now I'm not so sure. The startup era may turn out to have been a temporary layer or a decade-long experiment laid over a much older business tradition.

The interesting question isn't whether startups succeed or fail. It's whether, when the excitement fades, will this society return to the way they have always organized power.
