Koh Ker is an archaeological site and a former capital of the Khmer Empire for a relatively short period. It was one of two rival Khmer Empire capitals β the other being Angkor from 928 to 944 CE during the reign of King Jayavarman IV. It was an important city during this time
Koh Ker is located about 120 kilometers (75 miles) northeast of Siem Reap. Visitors can reach the site by road, but it's advisable to check current conditions and accessibility before planning a visit.
One of the most famous structures at Koh Ker is the Prasat Thom, a massive seven-tiered pyramid temple that stands 36 meters (118 feet) tall. Visitors can climb to the top for panoramic views of the surrounding jungle.
Recently, Koh Ker Temple archaeological site has been officially added to UNESCOβs World Heritage List, during the 45th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on September 17.
