John Patrick

John Patrick I'm the guy you see on TV with Southwest Florida's Most Accurate Forecast, certified by WeatheRate.

After leading SWFL through Hurricanes Wilma, Irma, Ian, Helene and Milton, I have retired from TV and now own a company called JetStream Media, which currently owns and operates WJST-FM in Albany - Tifton, GA and WZTZ-FM in Enterprise, AL.

I took this picture this afternoon at SR 82 and Lee Blvd. Notice the rainbow is a bit broken. That's because the sunlight reflects and refracts off of the rain and where the rainbow breaks up, there's no rain at those spots for the sunlight to hit.

It's funny. Except for looking at the radar to see when I can take Rami to his favorite place, I really don't pay much attention to weather anymore. I certainly don't spend hours looking at models.

But with seeing all of the Hurricane Ian posts this evening, I had to go back and dig through my camera roll. I found a picture of the forecast model that I first put on ABC7 Sunday night Sept. 25. This was our in-house model that I watched for three, maybe four runs before putting it on TV. It was consistently forecasting a SWFL landfall and since Irma, I really paid special attention to this model because it was so good with tropical storms & hurricane tracks. Confidence in this model allowed me to be the first person to go on TV and say Ian was coming here and not Tampa like all the other models were showing at the time.

The second picture is me and the radar as Ian was coming through SWFL. I was literally numb at this point and mortified at what the hurricane was doing to our area.

But compare the model from Sunday night and the live radar from Wednesday afternoon. That was a damn good forecast. The model did wobble with each run a couple miles north/south with landfall point (wobbling between Charlotte Co. to Bonita Springs) but we knew it was coming here and Ian was so big and powerful that didn't matter. It was coming for us.

I'm just glad to be chillin' on my couch tonight and not worrying about any hurricanes.

Visited my Alabama station today and I spent the early afternoon at "Corner Bistro" in Enterprise to get some work done while eating a cinnamon bun. 😋

Just like in Georgia, this station has no office or studio, just the transmitter building, so anywhere with WiFi and food is my office. 🤣

Apparently, they deliver to Albany, Georgia too! 😱 Look where they are from...

Sometimes, OK most of the time, I procrastinate when I know something is going to take a lot of time, like this commercial for Topeka Vacations. It's due tomorrow (Monday) and here I am at 1:00 AM producing it. They are hosting "Rockin' In Paradise" with Styx, Collective Soul, .38 Special, Cheap Trick, Loverboy, John Waite and a few others next month in Miramar Beach. If you want to make the trip to the Panhandle, the website to check it out is https://booking.topeka.live/pages/styx25

This is going to air on both the Georgia station and the Alabama station, since it's an hour 45 minute drive from Enterprise, AL and 3 hours from Albany.

It's a concert commercial, so I had about 3 cups of coffee before I voiced it earlier today. 😆
