A visionary administrator and cultural catalyst, Nicholas Snowman shaped the contours of contemporary music in Europe. In 1968, he co-founded the London Sinfonietta, launching it with a bold programme that included the world premiere of Sir John Tavener’s The Whale. Recognized for his audacious spirit, he was later invited—at the behest of French President Georges Pompidou—to work alongside Pierre Boulez in founding IRCAM, where he served as artistic director from 1972 to 1986. In 1976, he co-founded the Ensemble intercontemporain with Boulez and Minister Michel Guy, further anchoring his legacy at the intersection of innovation and art.

Presented in the purest form of la parole, this cine-portrait eschews illustration and narrative convention. What emerges is a continuous, face-to-face encounter—Snowman’s voice, his gaze, and the theatre of thought. A meditation in motion, it is both intimate and formally daring.

Now available to stream, this film is an act of listening. It offers the distilled essence of a life lived in dialogue with the new.

Recognized for his forward-thinking approach, Snowman was invited by Pierre Boulez , at the behest of French President Georges Pompidou, to oversee the establishment of IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique), where he served as artistic director from 1972 to 1986.

Rina Sherman a créé k éditeur*, nom sous lequel elle publie ses travaux : films, livres, photographies, expositions et conférences et, occasionnellement, le travail d'auteurs invités.

* k éditeur a été créé en 1945 par Alain Gheerbrant, qui a publié les textes de George Bataille, d'Antonin Artaud, de Benjamin Péret, de Jacques Vaché et de Camille Bryen, avec lesquels il a composé l'Anthologie de la poésie naturelle. En 1948, il quitte Paris pour mener l'expédition "Orénoque Amazon".

Rina Sherman a réalisé le ciné portrait d'Alain Gheerbrant en 2013, peu de temps avant son décès, et lors du tournage, elle lui a demandé si elle pouvait utiliser le nom k éditeur. Il a donné son accord et elle a par la suite fait l'acquisition du nom pour ses publications. Son cinéportrait, Alain Gheerbrant, le langage dénudé, est sorti en 2014 lors d'une avant-première à la Bibliothèque nationale de France pour marquer le don de ses fonds d'archives par Alain et Edwige Gheerbrant.
