Paksworld RPG announced
British game design firm to produce official licensed tabletop roleplaying game based on Elizabeth Moon’s award-winning fantasy novels

Paksworld: The Roleplaying Game to be released in 5E compatible and Skillskape versions

Dudley, UK, 25 March 2025: Brittannia Game Designs Ltd (BGD), publishers of the renowned roleplaying game Chivalry & Sorcery, and award-winning fantasy author Elizabeth Moon have entered into an agreement to produce the first officially licensed game based on Elizabeth’s World of Paksenarrion series of novels and stories.

Development of the game – which will be produced in two editions, one using Wizards of the Coast LLC’s forthcoming System Reference Document 5.2 game engine under the Creative Commons licence, the other using a custom version of Brittannia’s own versatile and dramatic Skillskape game engine – is already underway. BGD will officially launch the game on Kickstarter later this year.

Both versions will share the same artwork and setting details. Only the rules engines will differ.

The Paksworld novels and stories – starting with The Deed of Paksenarrion trilogy (Sheepfarmer’s Daughter, Divided Allegiance and Oath of Gold) – hold a special place in the heart of tabletop gamers. Not only did Elizabeth draw inspiration from experiences in her husband’s tabletop roleplaying campaign when creating the initial trilogy, Paksenarrion Dorthansdotter is widely considered modern fantasy fiction’s quintessential Paladin by gamers.

“We are thrilled to bring Paksworld to the tabletop,” said Stephen Turner, managing director and chief designer of BGD.

“Paksworld is a world of gritty high adventure where anyone can attain great heights of heroism. Paks herself is the embodiment of everything a paladin should and can be.

“Elizabeth’s novels have always emphasised the society around her protagonists, drawing on her experiences as both a historian and a military veteran to give her stories vibrant authenticity, something we have always striven to achieve in our games.

“The Paksworld novels are greatly beloved by gamers. It's an absolute pleasure to be working with Elizabeth to give gamers the chance to bring Paksenarrion and her world to their games.”

Elizabeth Moon said "I'm very excited to see a Paks-related game in the works! I hope people have as much fun playing in Paksworld as I had writing it."

Turner added, “Wizards of the Coast’s SRD 5.2 rules will offer a new, more flexible approach to 5E compatible gaming – and these are the current version of the rules that originally inspired Elizabeth to create Paksenarrion Dorthansdotter.

“At the same time, our own Skillskape game engine has been refined over 30 years to present a narrative approach to gaming that is both dramatic and authentic.

“We’re happy to offer gamers the choice to use whichever engine suits their group’s needs best.”

The World of Paksenarrion product line will add to the existing product lines of Chivalry & Sorcery 5th edition and Essence lines both of which have new products planned for 2025.
