We’re less than a month away from those "Back to Church Sunday" promotions. So, maybe it's a good time to ask a bigger question: What does it mean to go back to the church of the Bible?
Many of us choose a church for good reasons, like family tradition or a welcoming feel. But the most important question is whether a church follows the pattern of the one we read about in the New Testament. The Bible gives us a clear picture of Christ's church, defined not by a building or brand, but by its commitment to:
• The Work: Spreading the gospel and building up believers (1 Tim. 3:15).
• The Worship: Gathering weekly to break bread, pray, sing, give, and hear the Word (Acts 20:7, 1 Cor. 16:1-2).
• The Organization: Following Christ as the only head, with qualified elders and deacons serving the local body (Phil. 1:1).
The way back to the church of the Bible isn't complicated. Like King Josiah in the Old Testament, it means humbly opening the book, comparing what we do to what it says, and being willing to change.
The Big Question: What's one thing you value most about a church family that follows the biblical pattern?
