Before you scream or grab a shoe, give me just one minute…
I’m not dangerous.
No, really. I’m a cellar spider — one of the most common house spiders around. I don’t bite people, I don’t spread diseases, and I definitely don’t want to crawl into your bed. (That’s a myth… I promise.)
So why am I hanging out in your home?
Because your place is cozy… AND full of delicious little pests.
Mosquitoes, flies, moths? I eat them all while you sleep.
I’m basically your chemical-free pest control service — quiet, tidy, and highly effective.
I spin a little web in the corner, do my job, and disappear. No drama.
I don’t want to bother you. I just want to live.
So next time you see me up there, maybe skip the stomp?
You can always gently relocate me outside — no hard feelings.

Join us this Friday, September 19th at 6:30 PM at Casa de la Cultura for our Art Plática: Murals de Diego Rivera in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Local artist Gabriella Monique will guide us through an exploration of Rivera’s murals and the Muralism movement. It will be an evening of art, learning, and community that honors our heritage and culture.

Former Car Wash Site Cleared for New AutoZone Store in Del Rio

A familiar corner of town is changing fast. The former Sunshine Car Wash property at 800 E. Gibbs street along with the adjacent property has been demolished and cleared, to make way for a new 6,786-square foot AutoZone retail store. According to documents the store is slated to open this fall. The project will create new jobs, tax revenue, and provide area motorists with a convenient source for parts, tools, accessories, and maintenance supplies.

When the new AutoZone opens its doors, it will mark another sign of how even the most familiar corners of town are evolving to meet the needs of a growing community. A BlueWave Car Wash is set to break ground on the site of the former Jitra, directly across the new AutoZone, and there is also talk of a national drive-thru coffee and fast-food chain planning to build on Gibbs Street as well.

AutoZone also operates another Del Rio location in the La Villita Shopping Center at 2400 Veterans Boulevard.
