I find your lack of outrage disturbing To avoid losing friends, we restrict political posts on our timelines, but there's so much crazy stuff happening that we can't just remain quiet.

This page is our outlet for that. A place to find informative links to the important stories of the day.

“A curtain of darkness is settling over our nation. And it’s getting ever harder to avoid connecting the authoritarian dots.”

It’s getting ever harder to avoid connecting the authoritarian dots.

"Witnesses say they saw U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra launch into an expletive-laden tirade at Ontario’s trade representative, David Paterson.

One witness said Hoekstra appeared to be upset about the anti-tariff ad that the province recently ran on television in the U.S., which has infuriated President Trump. The witness said Hoekstra could be heard using the F-word and also mentioned Ontario Premier Doug Ford by name."

The U.S. ambassador to Canada delivered an expletive-laced tirade at Ontario's trade representative at an event in Ottawa on Monday, multiple witnesses tell CBC News

"A Portland Police Bureau assistant chief said in court recently that federal police were “instigating” some of the clashes between officers and protesters outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in South Portland.

Other records reveal police were aware of — and concerned about — potential excessive use of force by federal police as early as mid-June. Portland Mayor Keith Wilson recently called on the Department of Homeland Security to investigate federal officers’ use of force against nonviolent protesters captured on video."

NO FU***NG KINGS!

A new precedent is being set in real time: The only real limit on Trump appears to be Trump himself.

"The online posts have also deepened concern among civil society groups and political language experts that violent rhetoric and racist hate speech are becoming normalized in America, particularly after decades of hard-fought civil rights victories that sought to dismantle such ideologies.

People have long expressed violent or racist views in private settings but experts say the leaks of the text messages are noteworthy because they surfaced the unfiltered - and to many shocking - views of political figures."

"Deploying an aircraft carrier is a major escalation of military power in a region that has already seen an unusually large U.S. military buildup in the Caribbean Sea and the waters off Venezuela.

Hours before Parnell announced the news, Hegseth said the military had conducted the 10th strike on a suspected drug-running boat, leaving six people dead and bringing the death count for the strikes that began in early September to at least 43 people."

The U.S. military is sending an aircraft carrier to the waters off South America, in the latest escalation and buildup of military forces in the region, the Pentagon announced Friday. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the USS Gerald R. Ford and its strike group to deploy to U.S. Southern Comman...

“I’m speaking on the Senate floor right now to ring the alarm. From deploying the National Guard in our cities to defying court orders and shutting down the government to attack health care, Trump is testing how far he can go. He’s trying to make Americans accept his total control as the new normal. Over the weekend, more than 7 million Americans joined No Kings protests across the country — a clear message that we refuse to let Donald Trump’s authoritarian takeover go unchecked.”

Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley is holding the floor of the Senate to denounce authoritarianism.

"No previous president has tried to overturn an election, sought to use the military against U.S. citizens, or sought to use the Justice Department as his own personal vendetta machine. The difference is that he’s the first president to live in an autocratic bubble, surrounded by a cult of personality within which nobody dares to criticize him, tell him uncomfortable truths or refuse to engage in blatantly illegal acts."

And it’s getting worse. When will we acknowledge the obvious?

"In 2020, Rudd wrote on social media that he believed Trump was the "most destructive" president in US history.

Those comments were deleted in November 2024 following Trump's electoral victory, saying he did so "out of respect" for the office of the president.

Trump appeared to not recognise Rudd at the table - but once he identified himself, Trump quickly made his views known.

"I don't like you and I probably never will," he said."

In 2020, Kevin Rudd wrote on social media that he believed Trump was the 'most destructive' president in US history.
