President Bola Tinubu has approved the redeployment of Femi Fani-Kayode as ambassador designate to South Africa.

Fani-Kayode was redeployed to South Africa after he was reportedly rejected by the German government.

However, disclosing the current development in a post on X, Fani-Kayode claimed he rejected his initial position to Germany.

He equally claimed he was the one that opted for South Africa.

Fani-Kayode wrote: “It gives me pleasure to announce the fact that Mr. President has graciously approved my posting as Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to South Africa.

“This came a few days after the initial posting to Germany was announced and after I made a formal representation to the then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, that I was not comfortable with Germany for a number of personal reasons and given the fact that I had lived in Europe most of my life I would prefer to go to South Africa which is a country that I had never been to and for which I have so much interest.

“I also expressed the fact that I would rather serve in a country that shares some of my convictions, beliefs and values when it comes to world affairs, that has the biggest economy in Africa, that has closer ties to Nigeria and that is more proximate to my political thinking when it comes to foreign affairs and a pan African vision.

“I therefore made an application for a redeployment to South Africa two days after the initial announcement was made and I am pleased to say that after the then Foreign Minister (H.E. Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar) heard my reasons he considered them favourably after which he conveyed the request to Mr. President who graciously approved it.”

Africa’s richest businessman, Aliko Dangote , is setting his sights on one of Nigeria’s biggest long-standing problems, power.

Aliko Dangote announces plans to invest in a 20,000MW power project aimed at tackling Nigeria’s electricity crisis, as part of broader efforts to drive industrial growth and reduce reliance on generators.

Speaking during a conversation at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) with Managing Director Makhtar Diop, Dangote revealed plans to invest in power generation on a massive scale, targeting up to 20,000 megawatts. If achieved, that would be a major leap for Nigeria, where power supply has struggled for decades to meet demand.

Dangote didn’t present it as just another business expansion . For him, it’s tied to a bigger idea, fixing Africa’s structural problems by investing directly in them.

“We are now going into power 20,000 megawatts,”he said, listing it alongside other major projects like fertiliser production, LNG, and port development.

Nigeria currently generates far less than its estimated electricity needs, with many businesses and households relying heavily on diesel and petrol generators. A project of this scale could significantly reduce that dependence, if delivered.

After proving skeptics wrong with his refinery, Dangote is now leveraging that confidence to address Africa’s energy and infrastructure gaps.

Dangote’s broader message was clear, Africa cannot keep waiting for foreign investors to solve its problems.

“How do we open up Africa? We will open Africa by demonstrating that we believe in Africa, by investing our money in Africa,” he said.

He argued that without local investment and commitment, it’s difficult to convince outsiders to take the continent seriously.

“If I don’t invest my own money, I can never go to any conference and convince people that Africa is a good place to come and invest.”

The power project is just one part of a wider expansion strategy.

Dangote disclosed that his group is scaling up fertiliser production to about 12 million tonnes annually, which could make it the largest in the world. There are also plans involving mining (potash and phosphate), agriculture, LNG, and the construction of a deep-sea port.

“Our own mission… is to look at critical needs of Africa and make sure that yes, we make those critical areas a reality,” he explained.

The Alliance of Sahel States (AES) is making a bold move — and it’s turning heads as they are preparing to launch an airline brand: “AES Airlines”.

According to Niger’s Transport Minister, the project is set to take off before the end of the year.

"This isn’t just about flights…

It’s about control, independence, and regional power.

For years, West African airspace has been dominated by foreign carriers — now AES could change that", he said.

Is this a smart step toward economic sovereignty — or an ambitious project that could struggle to compete in a tough aviation market?

Prominent South Africa entrepreneur Vusi Thembekwayo has challenged what he describes as a misleading global narrative that paints the country as broadly hostile to foreigners.

Speaking at the 2026 edition of The Platform Nigeria, held to commemorate Workers’ Day, the founder and CEO of MyGrowthFund Venture Partners said it was important to distinguish between isolated incidents of violence and the character of an entire nation.

“Contrary to what you see in the media, South Africans are not xenophobic,” Vusi said, while acknowledging that xenophobia does exist in parts of society.

“I believe there is an agenda to turn us against each other,” he said. “We fuel that agenda when we feed the noise and fire.”

“I am not saying there is no xenophobia, but saying the entire nation being xenophobic is missing the point,” he said.

Foreign-owned businesses, particularly those run by migrants from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Somalia and other African countries, have frequently been targeted during such unrest, underscoring persistent tensions in economically strained communities.

Vusi, however, stressed that these incidents should not define South Africa’s broader social fabric.

He highlighted the country’s diversity, noting its population of more than 60 million people and 11 official languages as evidence of coexistence rather than division.

“We are one of the most diverse societies in the world, and even though that is the case, we get along with most people,” he said.

He also called for increased dialogue at the community level, urging citizens to “reach across the divide” and engage in meaningful conversations aimed at rebuilding trust.

“We as a people have to do better,” he said. “Dragging each other down, fighting each other, calling each other names, it has to stop at some point.”

He suggested that institutions such as religious organisations could serve as platforms for reconciliation, encouraging unity through shared values.

“We are different until we start worshipping under the same Christ,” he added, urging individuals to “be the light” and speak truth in confronting harmful behaviour.

“Let us avoid the theatre of the rest of the world, saying, ‘you see these people, they can’t get along with themselves,” he said.

Burkina Faso Prime Minister Has Announced That Burkina Faso Has Effectively Become A "One-Party" State — With The Nation Itself As The Only “Party.”

Speaking today, "Today we have only one political party. This is Burkina Faso,” the Prime Minister stated.

This comes after the military junta under Captain Ibrahim Traoré formally dissolved and banned all existing political parties earlier this year, scrapping multi-party democracy in favor of total national unity under the transitional government.

No more opposition. No more division.
Just one Burkina Faso.

Critics call it the death of democracy. Supporters hail it as the ultimate Pan-African revolution — putting the country and its people first, above Western-style politics.

Breaking: Tinubu Reshuffles Cabinet As Oyedele Becomes Finance Minister

President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle in the membership of the Federal Executive Council.

According to a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, two cabinet members, Wale Edun and Ahmed Dangiwa, are to leave the cabinet while their replacements have been named.

Edun, until the latest development, was the minister of finance and coordinating minister for the economy.

He has been directed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who is now to take over as minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy. Oyedele was formerly a minister of state in the ministry.

Also, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as the ministerial nominee and minister designate for the Housing and Urban Development Ministry.

The memo also directed Dangiwa to hand over to the minister of state in the ministry.

The memo stated that all handover and takeover processes should be completed on or before the close of business on Thursday, 23rd April, 2026.

Explaining the president’s decision, Akume said: “These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He said the president, in approving the cabinet reshuffle, has fully exercised his powers as conferred on him by Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended).

The president thanked the outgoing ministers for their services to the nation while wishing them the best in all their future endeavours.

“He would go to another room and send me a full email about everything he’s angry about,” she revealed, adding that she doesn’t understand why he can’t just talk things through in the moment.

Her revelation has sparked online debate, with many fans discussing different communication styles in relationships.
