💫 THAT BEAUTIFUL MIND written by NYT bestselling author Tami Charles (Tami Charles) and her son Christopher Charles (Chris Charles) and illustrated by NYT bestselling illustrator Nikolas Smith (Nikkolas Smith) has received a Kirkus star! Congratulations all!!

⭐ “Tami Charles and her son Christopher team up for a reflection on neurodivergence, rooted in Christopher’s own experiences.
‘Some days it feels like my mind doesn’t work right,’ a young Black boy confides. Parents and older relatives help the child draw out his talents. At home, his imagination runs wild; on the basketball court, he’s a force to be reckoned with, and in the kitchen, his culinary skills are unmatched. He’s ‘curious / and / hilarious / and wondrously free.’ But ‘out there,’ in school and in front of others, he is misunderstood and judged for his forgetfulness, his talkativeness, and his tardiness—behaviors that don’t define him. With support from others and through techniques such as deep breathing, he overcomes his challenges and fears about the different way his mind works to let his brilliance show. Smith relies on energetic brushstrokes, sketchy lines, and varied palettes and compositions; his signature style is well suited to the subject matter, conveying the narrator’s feelings as he moves through chaos into comfort and calm. Dynamic layouts and thoughtful text design add a layer of engagement to the reading experience. Making compelling use of figurative language, the authors’ rhythmic, immersive verse evokes a youngster’s exuberance and playfulness. This thoughtful collaboration successfully conveys the struggles and joys of one youngster’s experience with neurodivergence while educating and captivating readers.
A dazzling and unapologetic portrait of a child unafraid to think differently.”

💫 GRANDMA FINA’S WONDERFUL UMBRELLA has received a starred review! Congratulations, Benjamin Alire Sáenz, Raúl the Third (Raul Gonzalez), and Elaine Bay!

⭐ “New illustrations and reimagined text bring freshness to this charming picture book fable, originally published in 1999. On a bright and sunny day, Grandma Fina sets out with her beloved but well-worn yellow umbrella for her walk through El Paso, TX. On her walk, Grandma Fina, with purple hair and light brown skin, is greeted by a diverse array of friends and family members; their conversations that blend Spanish and English appear in comic-style speech bubbles, all noting the sorry state of the titular umbrella. The next day is Grandma Fina’s birthday, and every single party attendee gifts her a brand-new umbrella. What’s a lady to do with nine new umbrellas? Kind Grandma Fina knows just who to share them with—friends at the community center who can now join her on sunny walks! This charming misadventure is also a beautifully rendered example of community caring in action that can lead to rich discussions.
VERDICT A first purchase wherever picture books are on shelves.”

Dino fans, come and get it! 🦕 BRONTOSAURUS IS BACK!: A DINOSAUR’S NAME AND RETURN TO FAME by Sarah Albee (Sarah Albee) and Chris Hsu (Chris Hsu) is a hilarious, lively, kid-appeal-filled look at the story of the brontosaurus—discovered, discontinued, and then reinstated again.

There’s so much to learn in about dinosaur naming, sloppy science, dueling paleontologists, and more! 🦴 Who really discovered the brontosaurus? And is it really a separate species at all?

Sarah Albee’s signature humor and strong writing, coupled with Chris Hsu’s kid-friendly and accurate art, bring history to life on the page.

BRONTOSAURUS IS BACK!—perfect for dino fans and curious kids learning how science evolves over time—is out on September 29 and available for preorder now! 📚
